Which is pretty pathetic. The GOP and their RINO media cohorts pushed this notion of "electability" hard from the beginning because they knew it was the ONLY argument on which they could possibly sell people on Romney. Since he had absolutely nothing in his record that would appeal to Republican voters. By pushing this electability meme, they "reprogram" voters into looking for the most moderate, or even left-of-center candidate, even though their natural instincts were to look for the conservative candidate. It's an insidious tactic and of course it's sad so many of the sheeple fell for it.
I think Karl Rove et al want to sever the GOP’s dependency on evangelicals’ approval. I remember last cycle he was pushing the concept that McCain could win without the evangelical vote. Maybe he thinks if he can purge the party of their influence, he could attract enough others from the left to beat them.
