The level of disinformation in your post is amazing. You will not ruin your weapon by firing hollow points. As a matter of fact, the most damaging round you can fire is the FMJ, as simple physics dictates that the harder the material of the bullet, the more wear on the rifling. Even a copper cladded hollowpoint has more give than an FMJ because the dome at the tip of an FMJ adds rigidity and strength to the structure of the bullet.
The round they are talking about purchasing is a +P+ high power round that will wear the rails, springs and other internal parts. This is a very high powered not for practice round. It has nothing to do with the rifling. Its a hot load and a not for practice round. A lot of people when firing this hot of a round will develop a flinch which is another reason they do not use this round for training. This round is used for a kill round only.
If you need any more training tips on proper use of firearms and ammo let me know.
