DNR to Kill Hogs and Small Family Farm Incomes

The ISO to be imposed on April 1 considers all but eight breeds of hogs to be feral. Those eight breeds are used in confinement buildings. That means the DNR can drive onto farms and homesteads that raise other breeds of swine and kill them on the spot.

This is so wrong that I hardly know where to start. Yes, there is such a thing as feral hogs, they are NOT raised in pens and domesticated, they are not heritage hogs, they run wild. They are destructive and dangerous. But this bill makes it open season on these small farms and homesteads that own and raise heritage hogs.

The other thing that the article points out is that this is not a legislated bill..it's a law that the DNR came out with.

Aren't we missing a step. Wouldn't DNR have to trespass onto private property and kill the hogs without permission?

Secondly, if the 'pigs' are deemed 'hogs' in some ways that would mean less regulation?

Missouri has that on feral, and I knew Texas had basically that same rule. I did not know you all had one-upped us. It's about time some state started it. My nephew is a professor at A&M. He probably knows where the crossing are around there. I'll have to go visit him.

Wrong on two counts. #1 the post is about FEDERAL hogs. Those who feed at the trough of government - not FERAL hogs. #2 You must have a current Texas hunting license to hunt hogs in Texas. There is no limit on feral hogs but some counties have seasons and limits on Peccary (or Javelina).

Even CA has a one per day one in possession law. The only exception is in Monterrey County where many of the hogs are Russian Boar mix. Why that makes a difference I don’t know, they are still destructive.

When I went hunting on private lands in Florida, the farmer told me DNR can walk on his farm and give tickets and do whatever they wanted. I was “surprized”, to say the least. I wanted to kill hogues with NVGs and what not, but was told they would hear us and could not do it.

Now they want to come whenever and kill hogues!?

This is such horsecrap. THis is not about land management. Let the farmers make their money or invite hunters, or some kind of agreement, not this automatic BS.

It is Michigan and Ted Nugent was on our local 760 WJR talk radio yesterday discussing this very issue.

I missed the middle half because I had to pull into a drug store but from what I took away from the conversation is that most of the information we've been fed here in Michigan regarding feral hogs has been overstated. Specifically the numbers........

I wasn't aware that farmers of non native pigs were being targeted for extinction.......
