Have been thinking along those line the last couple of days. When the first officer arrived the gun was in the holster on Z’s waist. Because the officer took the gun he was in close enough contact to note the wet, grassy back of Zimmerman.

The cartridge was still in the chamber and several freepers have confirmed that it would automatically discharge unless some thing kept it from working.

Am concerned that LEO didn't take the necessary precaution and test on all of the evidence Zimmerman might need to prove the struggle and his innocence.

Do you mean the "casing"? A cartridge is automatically reloaded when an automatic works correctly.

Not exactly.

GEORGE ZIMMERMAN AND TRAYVON MARTIN: WHAT WE DON’T KNOW

It has been reported that the gun was recovered with a full magazine and that only the chambered round had been fired. This is a condition we associate with something preventing the gun from cycling a fresh round from the magazine into the chamber after the shot was discharged. One thing that can cause that is another man’s hand wrapped around the pistol, retarding its slide mechanism.
