The death of Trayvon Martin was surely a tragedy, no matter what the facts are. Nonetheless, the media coverage of and political response to the killing have been absolutely disgraceful exploitative, cynical, and counterproductive in the extreme.
Lets begin with the media. The initial narrative they seized upon was one of George Zimmerman, a white Hispanic, targeting Martin for wearing a hoodie, tracking him down, beginning a fight with him, and murdering him. Afterward, the narrative goes, Martin was not arrested by the police because either the police were racist, or they completely misconstrued Floridas stand your ground law.
To make this narrative work, the media had to paint Martin as a saint, and George Zimmerman as a devil. If they had cared about accuracy, they would have realized that the character of both the supposed victim and perpetrator was irrelevant only the events of the night in question matter. Instead, they decided to tell the American public that Zimmerman was a racist pig, while Martin was a clean-cut young man with no history of suspicious behavior.
So they released a picture of Martin that was several years old and emphasizing his youthful innocence rather than a more recent picture showing his gold chains and tatts. They suggested that Martin was a model student, rather than a troubled young man suspended from school for carrying an empty marijuana baggy.
Meanwhile, Zimmerman was portrayed as a latent member of the Ku Klux Klan, even though he was a mentor to two teenage kids of a black woman in Florida, and helped in a fundraiser for a black church.
So whats the real story? According to police, Martin attacked Zimmerman by punching him and knocking him down; he then began slamming his head into the sidewalk. Witnesses corroborated this account. Zimmerman then shot Martin in the chest. Zimmerman was found with bloody lacerations to the back of his head and a swollen lip, consistent with his story.
Did the media do anything good by pumping it as a racial narrative without clear evidence? Of course not. But they made hay, turning a local killing into a national issue.
And that, of course, opened the way for the politicians to make hay of their own. President Obama quickly chimed in, stating, When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. And I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together federal, state and local to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened You know, if I had a son, hed look like Trayvon. All of us have to do some soul-searching to figure out how does something like this happen.
This is sheer and exploitative nonsense. Obamas color has nothing to do with the story. Americans dont have to do soul searching about this killing, because Americans werent involved in this killing Martin and Zimmerman were. In fact, Obamas comments helped taint the potential jury pool for Zimmerman, if he is indeed indicted and tried.
But Obama is hardly alone in inserting himself into this situation. As weve seen since the Martin shooting, liberals have moved into full court press, blaming everyone from Rush Limbaugh to the law itself for the killing. Nobody has isolated the case to the actual shooter, Zimmerman, or the alleged victim, Martin. Nobody has worried about what happens if and when the case is actually prosecuted. Nobody cares about any of that.
All they care about is making hay. Thats why serial race-baiters Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are down in Florida raising a hullaballoo, with Jackson going so far as to state, without basis, that Martin was shot in the back of the head. Media members are condemning Mitt Romney for not speaking up about the case even when thats precisely the proper response to a pending legal matter in which the facts are unclear. Thats why Occupy Wall Street thugs are using the Martin killing as an excuse to run around New York tearing up fences and climbing statues.
The Trayvon Martin case is murky. The facts are unclear. The motivations are uncertain. But one thing is crystal clear: nobody ought to be jumping to conclusions, speaking up without evidence, or manipulating for the sake of politics.

If Zimmerman is a “white-hisplanic” does that make Obama a white-black er. white-African?
IMO —watching the lamestream news the useful idiots blindly chanting “No Justice -No Peace” and such as led by the community organizers—and the New Black Panther Party— and the Muslim Brotherhood -and all the homosexual activists—are all part of the same problem they represent this private Army Maobama called for. When he said Trevan could have been my son— he sent clear message to the enemy that he is one of them. That his DOJ would NOt prosecute any crime committed in prosecution of the destruction of our Country. And this is SO TRUE— They don’t give a tinkers dam about the 17 yr old they are using -nor about the innocent man they want lynched. IT is ALL about breaking the system.
Actually..the facts are pretty damn clear..text book self defense.
Same-old, same-old Marxist tactics. They know exactly what they’re doing.
The first I heard was that a white neighborhood watchman had shot and killed a defenseless black teenager who was walking home from the store where he got skittles and something to drink. What is that kind of news story supposed to do? I had visions of this poor defenseless kid walking down the street and this big old white guy just shot him. When you get the facts, though, it is a totally different story. That is what the news does today. They bent this story so as to create sentiment about race.
*Shock!* *GASP!* Say it isn’t so!
I can’t help but cast my mind back to the 1955 movie “Trial”, where a young attorney played by Glenn Ford discovers the true intent of the commies behind a young boy’s “defense fund”. Care about the boy? Heck no! It is the agenda that matters!
Time for a little racial rope-a-dope.
The Leftists are going to keep hammering away at this. They have no choice. They are all in. They have to stand by their narrative that the Hispanic man killed the Black teen out of racial animus.
Eventually, as facts overtake the narrative, it will become clear that they are unfairly targeting this innocent Hispanic man, and that can only serve to drive a wedge between Hispanics and the Leftists.
Obama is counting on Hispanic support for his re-election. Don’t be surprised if they are not too enthusiastic to keep Eric Holder in the AG slot for another four years.
Given the evidence, the only hope for liberals is to allege that Zimmerman physically attacked Martin first, then, when Zimmerman was losing the fist-fight, he shot Martin.
That keeps this story in the realm of unprovables where one can choose to believe either side without dispute.
Otherwise, this is a cut and dry case of self-defense.
Zimmerman created the entire situation he finds himself in. Why anyone would think a kid walking down the street ‘looks suspicious’ is beyond me. I’m insulted by this notion alone. And really, what the hell was Zimmerman doing with a gun? Did he think he was Deputy Dog? The ‘neighborhood watch’ people out there better learn a lesson from this situation.
With all of that said and assuming what I read is accurate, it appears Trayvon Martin made the first violent move. The only question that then remains is: Was Trayvon’s violent move justified? If it was, Zimmerman is a murderer. If it wasn’t, Zimmerman was acting in self defense.
It’s clear that Trayvon was aware that Zimmerman was following him. Therefore, it’s completely understandable why this could ‘freak’ Trayvon out. It would certainly freak me out to be followed by a stranger. Think of someone in a car following you or for that matter, think of someone following your 12 year old daughter. It’s creepy, isn’t it?
With that said, Zimmerman has stated that he was returning to his car when he was attacked. To me if he was a neutral observer or backing off of Trayvon when he was attacked, Zimmerman was simply defending himself with his gun. If however, Zimmerman was walking towards Trayvon (after having followed him in his car for sometime) and Trayvon turned around and attacked him out of fear, then Zimmerman was being the aggressor and he ultimately murdered Trayvon.
Again, you Neighborhood Watch people need to learn from this. This is not Nazi Germany. Call the police if something looks fishy. Don’t intimidate people in your neighborhood just because you’ve never seen them before.
No mater what, it’s a huge cluster-F of Zimmerman’s own making. It’s unclear if he deserves to be convicted of murder but, it’s very clear that he deserves the mental suffering he’s currently experiencing. What a mess!!!!
That is what the news does today. They bent this story so as to create sentiment about race.
***************************************
Exactly! This story is as much about our media as it is any other thing!
Spend less than five minutes and one of the first facts the media reported in the case, is discovered to be false.
*Trayvon walked to get his little brother Skittles, during halftime of the NBA AllStar game.*
The game didn’t start until 7:30p, est. Trayvon was being pronounced dead at the at that very moment. It wasn’t halftime.
If they didn’t get that simple fact correct, one has to wonder....are they that sloppy or that manipulative. Either way, it is damning.
Of course none of this matters to the left. This is simply a part of the process of victimhood, one of the key steps to the never ending revolution to socialism and authoritarianism.
The neighborhood was being victimized by multiple burglaries. You have a right to patrol your neighborhood.
Zimmerman thought Martin was acting suspicious and called 911.
Now, we do not know what happened between that call and the fight.
However, unless you want to tell me that Zimmerman started the fight, there is ZERO justification for Martin to lash our physically.
You may not like being followed or confronted, but it does not give you the right to react with violence.
“And really, what the hell was Zimmerman doing with a gun?”
Was he legally entitled to carry concealed? If so, your question assumes he has to justify exercising a constitutional right. Do you think that a neighborhood watch guy loses his right to protect himself by being in neighborhood watch?
I carry a gun if I am walking at night. Left wing nuts ask: “And what the hell is ModelBreaker doing with a gun.”
Normal people say: “Hmmm. ModelBreaker must be exercising his constitutional right to carry a gun to protect himself.”
Correct! He is only being used by the 0bama regime to galvanize his core constituents (never let a crisis go to waste ).
That’s how I’m referring to him from now on - our white African-American President. Maybe WAAP for short...
P.C. cases go through numerous stages:
Stage 1: The outrage, when even those on the right say “this doesn’t look good. What’s going on?”
Stage 2: All sorts of wrong information comes out as the usual demagogues whip up the case.
Stage 3: the truth comes out. Rational people see the whole issue was a tempest in a teapot.
Stage 4: The left come up with all sorts of bizarre theories as to why the accused could still be guilty.
Stage 5: Absurd closing statements to justify the whole thing. “Well, given the long history of racism, it was understandable people were concerned, blah, blah, blah...”
Stage 6: The whole thing is quietly forgotten.
We are in stage 4 now. “George Zimmerman is definitely lying!” is the equivalent of “well, obviously, those Duke lacrosse players used condoms, which is why there is no DNA evidence.” Given how much energy the left has put into this one, we may be there for another few weeks.
It will take a while to get to Stage 5, since the left has devoted so many resources
Halfrican American.
