Napoleon once said he does not need a good general, sometimes a lucky general will do. Question for most conservatives is this country still “lucky”? I associate US good luck with God’s grace on this nation as long as Americans are still Godly in nature. Through out US history there are numerous examples of luck falling on US favor when our enemies had the advantage and should have decisively defeated the US. Today the US is riddled with consumerism (spending on items that they do not need or have already despite the lack of money or income), God is no longer honored in practice (less then half go to church regularly, sizable number of conservatives (libertarians) accept gay lifestyle and exhibit anti Jewish/Israel sentiments (Jews have too much influence in our Congress), do we control our language in private (swearing and using God’s name in vain), do we have self control on lust and meet the Christian standards? Like in the past when our nation reached a critical crossroad, we always manage to cross it safely with a miracle (God’s favor), and now can we say the same thing?
Reminds me of a wonderfully thought provoking quote by Robert Heinlein...
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck.".
