ANNAPOLIS Newt Gingrich visited the state capital on Tuesday to campaign for Marylands April 3 presidential primary.
Mr. Gingrich toured the city during the morning and made a stop at the State House where he briefly addressed the Senate before meeting with a group of House Republicans.
The former U.S. House speaker spoke with reporters afterward and spent much of the time defending his struggling presidential campaign.
....Mr. Gingrich said if Mr. Romney does not collect a majority by the June 26 Utah primary, he will challenge the former Massachusetts governor all the way to the Republican National Convention in August.
At that point, I think most Republicans agree that I would probably do a better job debating [President] Obama than any other candidate, he said.
While Mr. Gingrich stuck mostly to national politics, he joked during a visit to the majority-Democratic Senate that his votes would probably differ from theirs on some issues.
While talking to reporters, he also slammed Gov. Martin OMalley, a Democrat, for proposing an increase in the states gas tax that appears to have lost most of its support from lawmakers......

Gingrich, whose visit comes one week ahead of the states April 3 Republican presidential primary, started with a private fundraiser at the Annapolis Sweet Shoppe in West Annapolis and then moved to the State House, where Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert) and senators of both parties applauded Gingrichs brief remarks.
Gingrich was then given a brief tour of the historic State House before speaking to reporters, saying he intended to stay in the race despite his campaigns financial troubles and Mitt Romneys increasing lead in the delegate count.
The moneys very tight, obviously, Gingrich said, before adding, We have the money to keep going.
If we get to June 26 and Governor Romney does not have a majority, I think youll then have one of the most interesting open conventions in American history, he said.
Gingrich, who has promised to lower the price of gasoline to $2.50 a gallon, also took a shot at OMalleys proposal to apply the states 6 percent sales tax to gasoline the most unpopular of at least a half-dozen tax and fee hikes the governor has proposed for the budget year beginning in July......
I’m glad he’s finally noticed the tax hell that is the Land of Peasant Living.
The latest O’Malley theft:
He just told the Counties they had to pick up half of the teachers pensions.
He didnt say what he would do with the money this will save the state, nor what happened to the money teachers poaid into the state.
In essence what this does is force the Counties to raise tax’s.
Putting the blame on County Commissioners instead of the Maryland House and Senate.
Friggin thief.
Are Maryland voters finally saying no to O'Malley?
This is why the unions in Wisconsin held siege on the state capital -- Scott Walker and the Republican controlled Legislature fixed it so the counties and cities wouldn't have to take the hit -- to avoid what O'Malley is doing in MD -- and Walker saved many jobs in the process.
Now Walker is facing impeachment by the public sector union mob.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
The majority of counties vote red in the election...The three to four that vote blue have the most people and that is why Maryland is doomed...They love this Idiot OWEMalley.
This is a pretty limited uprising against him. Gas prices are going up so raising the gas tax now has got to be the most unpopular thing to do.
He raised the sales tax at the beginning of his first term and afterward won an easy re-election.
“Now Walker is facing impeachment by the public sector union mob.”
Should READ:
“Now Walker is facing RECALL by the public sector union mob.”
I can’t do much to get rid of MOM, but I did cast a vote yesterday for Newt and his delegates.
