ATLANTA (WAOK/AJC)- More than three thousand people mostly students from the Atlanta area HBCU’s attended an emotional highly charged protest rally for Trayvon Martin at the Georgia State Capital on Monday.
The Atlanta rally, was one of the dozens held across the country on the one month anniversary of the death of Martin.
Officials had to close the street in front of the Capitol and several times Derrick Boazman activist and talk show host on WAOK asked the crowd to make room for people who were still lined among Martin Luther King Blvd trying to hear the speakers at the rally.
Hundreds of students from the Atlanta University Center marched down Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from their campuses to attend the rally. The late afternoon heat and the wearing of hoodie sweatshirts lead to several people needing medical attention.
The crowd was prompted to chant “No Justice, No Peace” by several speakers and all chanted, “I AM TRAYVON.”
The two youngest members of the Georgia House of Representatives — reacting to last month’s shooting death of a 17-year-old in Florida in a case that has riveted the nation — promised to file legislation Tuesday that would repeal Georgia’s “Stand Your Ground” law.
Reps. Alisha Thomas Morgan, D-Austell, and Rashad Taylor, D-Atlanta, said, despite the fact that the 2012 legislative session is almost over, gun legislation has to be reigned in. In the time remaining in the session, the General Assembly is debating a bill that would lower the age to carry a gun to 18.
“We want to make a statement to get the conversation started,” Taylor said. “So when we come back, we will have something. This doesn’t make any sense. We should not have a society where guns are the norm.”

They did that with the Rodney King case as well. They made him out to be a Saint and only showed the part of the video where he gets his ass beat over and over by the cops, not the part where he kept charging them even after he was tased twice and not the part where he pulled his pants down and told them to kiss his ass.

I went to school with a George Zimmerman many years ago, but he was a white Caucasian Roman Catholic.

So, you’ve been suspended from school multiple times, are implicated in drug use and possibly dealing, implicated in stealing jewelry, implicated in taking a swing at a bus driver, aren’t even at home because you’ve been suspended from school. And in the Rodney King case, the MSM reported that he was a “motorist” beaten by cops. The clear implication was that he was pulled over for something minor such as a speeding ticket.
In fact, he was leading police on a high speed chase of over 100 mph. He was fleeing a crime scene, a crime in which he was the prime suspect, which is why the cops were chasing him. He was no random black “motorist” beaten up by cops.
And, the complete video showed the cops trying to subdue him with less forceful methods. The beating with nightsticks we all saw was the last resort, the final method used to subdue an uncooperative suspect who was resisting arrest.
The mistake the cops made was not beating Rodney bad enough.

Man, I’d be stylin’ with that wouldn’t I? With a smile like a possum in a persimmon windfall! They even polish them for you when they get all grungy, you know you eat a banana or spinach or something and it’s gotta get funky.
So I figure I’ll need a baby pacifier, grow my hair out and twist it into braids with gel, some white Foster Grants and a small Westclock Baby Ben to hang from a big-a** gold chain around my neck.
