The strategy seems similar to the The media outrage to Rush/slut debate. The media coordinates coverage of the topic. Try to divide the country...war against woman rights, racism.

In both instances Obama inappropriately had to get involved. Make it play out as long as possible to control media and drown out discussion of current power grab, corruption .
