That's exactly what I have always called them and I have been wearing them since at least the '70s. I'm a white woman in my 50s and in some weather I still wear them - especially in the winter sitting in the bleachers watching my daughter's hockey games. everyone I know wears them at some point, and there was no hoodlum image attached to them, regardless of color, until recently.
Me, too. Let’s hear something in defense of hoodies...they’re not just for hoods! I’m in my 70’s, white, female and in the winter I live in hoodies. I usually buy them in the men’s department, because they hang much longer than the women’s sizes, all one color. I even have a gray one that is ultra feminine, besequined and beribboned from a high end store and I think it’s quite pretty and I have gone shopping in nice stores wearing it. However, I don’t wear pants showing “butt cleavage” (for which everyone should be much thankful)and in appearance I am as far removed from a “gangsta” as you can get.
One of mine has “Holloman AFB” on it and pics of an F22, a 117 and a couple others.
That’s one seriously dangerous ‘gang’ ;)
It used to be in the wannabee gang world that Timberline boots and a fur collar winter jacket (the ‘arctic’ kind that zip up like Kenny on South Park) were the standard uniform. They wore them in the dead of summer to ‘look cool’.
I remember saving up for a pair of Timberlines...as they were steel toe, insulated and GREAT (and expensive) work boots. Today they are just wannabee gangbanger passee fashion.
I am 20 years older than you and I am a white woman. I have several hooded sweatshirts and jackets with hoods. They never were a racial thing until now. I only put the hood up when it is raining, they are very practical garments.
