WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton approved $1.3 billion in annual military aid to Egypt, waiving congressionally mandated democratic reform conditions.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Clinton waived the conditions based on U.S. national security interests and a goal of maintaining a strategic partnership with Egypt, Voice of America reported Friday.
"What we are looking to do here is to continue to work with Egyptian partners on the kind of future that they want for Egypt and that is in our mutual interest," Nuland said.
Under a law passed by Congress in December, Egypt's military rulers are required to support a transition to a civilian government, hold free and fair elections and protect freedom of religion and association as conditions for receiving the aid.

Congress has surrendered to tyranny. Boehner needs to wake up and defend constitutional rights.
I am in fear for my future.
Who gave her the power to bypass a mandatory law?
She's drunk with power and she's a disgrace.
I guess I can be grateful that she didn't make the Presidency and, yes, I think she would be worse than Obama.
i just can't wait to see her gone.
According to this, it hasn't actually been passed yet -

So how can the law be broken?
Our wonderful, slow Congress in action who can't even pass an actual budget.
Where will Ol’ Crusty get the 1.5B?
Pull it out of Obamas @ss?
Thanks Army Air Corps,
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Where does Hillary get off giving any money to anyone??? I thought the House of Reps were in charge of money not some appointed Bozo like Hillary
Welcome to the new tyranny.
It’s as if Congress and others have been notified to make noises but not cross the line in opposition to any of this treachery. Their families must have been threatened.
Did I miss something? When was the power to spend money given to the SOS.
“Why do we even bother having a Congress?”
And, why do we bother to pay their salaries?
I’m wondering when much of the power of congress was ceeded.
I think after 9/11 things started to speed up and with Pelosi and Obama it started moving at warp speed.
I think Boehner is worthless and McConnell is no better. I can no longer see how we get out of this mess.
DeMint disappointed me on Romney but I can somewhat understand what he is doing, but it doesn’t make it go down any better.
And it doesn’t look like I will ever enjoy a President Gingrich.
Some days it seems hopeless. I suppose we just pray for a better tomorrow?
/and depression sets in
I’m with ya’. I just have to listen to myself as I always end my prayers with “Your will be done.” As a wise man once said “God either is or he isn’t.”
I figure he is. We have kiddos, puppy dogs, flowers and glorious sunny days. So much love, heart and beauty— that couldn’t be a happy accident.
Huh? Since when does the SoS get to personally okay foreign aid? I thought Congress controlled the money.
Jizya.
Agree - to a point.
There seems to be no accountability to this administration as the ‘checks and balances’ are gone. If Congress and the Supreme Court refuse to accept their responsibility in this area, it is left to the people. We must be adamant in this election cycle to oppose Obama and make sure voter fraud is not accepted.
