As part of a survey to understand why they have stopped attending Mass, a few hundred Catholics in the Trenton Diocese were asked what issues they would raise with Bishop David OConnell if they could speak to him for five minutes.
OConnell would have gotten an earful.
Their reasons ranged from the personal ("the pastor who crowned himself king and looks down on all") to the political ("eliminate the extreme conservative haranguing") to the doctrinal ("dont spend so much time on issues like homosexuality and birth control").
-snip-
Respondents also said they were troubled by the churchs views of gays, same-sex marriage, women priests and the handling of the sex abuse crisis.

BYE! and take any snivelling Obama voters with you. There’s no way that any Catholic could have voted for Obama the first time. That makes ZERO sense. Beware of stooopid people. Very sad.
I think that the complaints about the way they handle the sex abuse cases is extremely valid, but I agree the other stuff is very liberal based.
I myself stopped going to church when they kept lying that they would keep molesters that are priests away from our children. You can only be told that lie so many times when you stop believing them.....
What is the difference between the “American Catholic Church” and the “Roman Catholic Church”? I don’t follow your statement. Aren’t Catholic churches in America called Roman Catholic?
Don’t let the door hit you....You are not Catholics if this bothers you.It is Church doctrine and has been there since Jesus Christ walked the earth.
“NJ Catholics give Bishops a Piece of their Minds”
If one does not believe in the tenets of the Catholic religion are they really Catholic? These obviously liberal non-Christians would leave the church no matter what the Church does...unless it does as Satan desires.
More Bingo bigger payouts,
Have there been recent incidents? I haven’t heard of any in the news, only the ones that are from 30 or more years ago.
Also, maybe it’s a good thing that you left the Church. You are obviously a perfect person without flaws that has never made a mistake. You are just too perfect for the Church.
“Unitarians”
Yep! The Unitarian Universalist (Just- in-case-there`s- a-God-He`ll-see-me-at- something- passing-for-a) Church!
The United Church of Christ digs homosexuals, too.
It would appear their biggest complaint is that the Catholic Church is too darn Christian for their tastes.
The rest go to westchester, Greenwich, or back to Europe and Russia.
Sounds to me like these girls represent too many American Christians. Like they choose the World —and Not the life.
Woe to the Church if it becomes like certain American Protestant Denomination and wholly reject the Bible as they seek to make us all as Sodom and like unto Gomorrah....not knowing the difference between a Bishop and a Queen.
I can’t find “Eucharistic Ministers” in the Catechism of the Catholic Church; American Catholics seem to no longer believe in the Divine Presence, and it is reflected in their liturgy.
The American Catholic Church, as a result, offers the sacrament of reconciliation for about 15 minutes on Saturdays for parishes of thousands of members.

nah, I wouldn’t say that. Perhaps in some areas but not in all. I know parishes that have confession every morning, usually the parishes of Polish descent. Most in the area have a one hour confession time on Saturdays, while others add the first Thursdays for the subsequent First Friday mass. Some dioceses in NJ have confessions for 1.5 hours, weekly on a specific night during lent.
This means that they have deliberately cut themselves off from the Church and the sacraments. >>
good point.
What is the difference between the American Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church? >>>
Each country has their own conference of bishops and have different customs. In Poland, you can’t receive Holy Communion in the hand while in America you can. Even in the USA, in certain dioceses some holy days are observed on the following Sunday and not the actual day, while in other dioceses you must attend mass on that specific holy day, like the next one coming up, Ascension Thursday, in my diocese we must attend mass on Thursday, while in other dioceses, the day is recognized on Sunday.
I dont follow your statement. Arent Catholic churches in America called Roman Catholic? >>
No, there are about 20 Eastern Rite Catholic Churches e.g. Marionite, Syriac, Coptic, Chaldean, Byzantine, Melkite, etc.
Form your own church, with you as the Pope. >>
don’t give them any ideas, lol....and I bet they would choose the first woman pope, and wouldn’t understand what sacreledge they are committing thinking they are equal to Jesus by picking His successor on earth.
I must have a bunch of saints in my parish; apparently they don’t need confession.
If the pastors can’t get people to see the importance of that sacrament, then they won’t ever see the importance of showing up for Mass.

I see that all over, I know so many people who have been attending mass faithfully for decades and refuse to go to confession who use the other religion’s excuse and say, “I go straight to the top and confess to God” or “I don’t commit any mortal sins so I don’t have to go to confession” or “why should I tell my sis to a man just like me, I don’t want him to know what I do and besides; he’s a sinner like me.”
Even the faithful Catholics have entered the cafeteria.
On the one hand I’m impressed that they go to Mass; on the other hand I would suggest to them to drive a short distance to a different parish for confessions to a priest who doesn’t know them from Adam.
