Would you like to hear what lust sounds like when it’s carefully bottled up? This is the finale of Franck’s Quintet for Piano and Strings. There is a very long introduction, and the theme doesn’t come in until 1:20. There is no mistaking what emotion is being displayed toward Augusta Holmes. Felicite Franck knew very well what prompted her husband to write this chamber work, and she absolutely hated it. She knew she couldn’t prompt that kind of emotion in Cesar.
