Texas Rep. Al Green was one of the thousands that gathered Thursday night at a rally in the hometown of Trayvon Martin protest the lack of action that had been taken on the investigation.
Green, a Democrat from Houston who attended grade school through college in Florida, said the incident has become a national issue.
Ive had many, many people stay this happens too often, Green said. This does not look right.
Martin, a 17 year old, had been walking through a gated community in Sanford, Fla. last week. George Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watchman, shot and killed Martin because he said he felt threatened by him. Martin had been unarmed.
Although it has been nearly a month since Zimmerman shot Martin and has stated that he was the shooter, he has yet to be arrested or charged.
Thousands gathered for the rally, some wearing hoodies with the hood up and holding Skittles and iced tea imitating what Martin had been wearing and carrying when he was shot. The event, organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton, was also attended by Martins parents and Dr. Martin Luther King III the son of the famous civil rights activist.
Something has gone wrong in our nation when vigilantes can go around under the pretense of protecting a neighborhood and just kill people, King said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle. Any member of congress ought to be concerned about this because it impacts all of our children.

Who paid for his trip?

Did Sharpton organize a rally for his black boys who tried to kill a white teenager with gas? That was a gang in broad daylight!
We really have to thank obama and his bitter pals for the upcoming race war. Real presidential crap, not a spirit of we the Americans! But then again, I wouldnt want to be his variety of “American”.
Did they start smashing up Korean delis yet?
This is speculation on my part, but based on the facts above being ignored by the media frenzy, this is what I think happened:
Zimmerman was belligerent, possibly even drunk and certainly didn't talk to Martin as respectfully as the TSA talks to Muslims. He may have even said something racial like what is a guy like Martin doing walking in their gated community.
Martin was possibly even drunk as well, but not with alcohol. I'd say he was drunk with pride. Pride which wouldn't allow a racial inferior, particularly a pudgy white guy to disrespect him. He felt he had not only a right, but a duty to teach this cracker a lesson particularly when Zimmerman followed him and pushed the envelope.
What he didn't know, however, was that Zimmerman was carrying an equalizer and was unwilling to submit the beating which he so richly deserved for his disrespect. That's when the real trouble started.
My mama, like so many others, taught me that "sticks and stones may break your bones, but names will never hurt you." The gangsta culture, OTOH, teaches that a beating is a perfectly proper response to being disrespected or insulted and said beating may escalate to even lethal force if the insult or disrespect is sufficiently offensive.

I’m still waiting for the media to release the kid’s c v. Was he National Honor Society president? President of the student council? First chair violin in the student orchestra? 4.0 gpa and the standout quarterback? sd
Because white guys won't open them up in the 'hood.
Amazing. The affected minority failed to protect their own neighborhoods from their own feral minority, thrust the entire responsibility on law enforcement and then cry about oppression.
They just haven’t learned that some people don’t rely on the goobermint to fix all of life’s little problems.
I'm not excusing the shooter, but there is just a hell of a lot more to this story than the media is letting out.
I’m sure `Spike Lee’ will chime in soon with some sage advice.
Remember the `joint’ he did—`Do The Right Thing’—about his character, a lazy pizza deliveryman, who incites a riot which results in the pizza shop being burned to the ground, then Spike finds the owner and demands his last paycheck.
I’ve got your last paycheck right here inside my waist `Spike.’
I do not know anything about this case except what I have seen or read about on line, in the newspapers or on TV. But one this is now clear, George Zimmerman will be charged with murder, a hate crime and violation of Trayvon Martin’s civil rights. Then he will be tried in as many courts many times as needed to get a conviction. Searching for guilt or innocence is no longer the goal. Now Zimmerman must pay. From Barack Obama to Shelby Steele to Rev. Al, the civil rights industry leaders have spoken, “Zimmerman is guilty and must pay.” My guess is he will be sentenced to 5-10 for manslaughter and will be killed in prison by another victim seeking “justice”.
Santorum threw Zimmerman under the bus, saying he should have been arrested and charged.
Please pull my post #8. Thank you!
Oh for heaven’s sake. Just hand Zimmerman over to them and let them have at it.
I must be losing my memory, because I just don’t remember hearing about Rep. Al Green flying to Knoxville to protest. Heck, I don’t even remember candidate Obama talking about how it made him think of his own kids.... and calling the parents of this innocent couple.
White couple car jacked raped, tortured, mutilated, and burned by 4 Black Africans in Knoxville, Tennessee. Yet I guess this ain’t no big deal.

These scum-suckers say they don’t want racism, yet they are doing every damn thing they can think of to convince people that they should be racists.
By the time summer is here, I think a lot of us might be "Koreans" as in the LA riots.
Wrong answer, Santorum. NO one except law enforcement in Sanford should be making any comments about who should be arrested and who shouldn’t and they aren’t saying anything that I’ve noticed. The rest of the country is going by whatever the media feeds them, including celebrities and politicians from BOTH parties.
Justice would be great, but neither Zimmerman or Tayvon are going to get it at this rate.
