Methinks a lot of rhetoric flying is masochistic wishful thinking: a deep hope that great evil will befall the country, desired for the meaning, if not sheer entertainment value, of having something to struggle against. Every group not in power wishes the in-power opposition would do something horrible just to justify acting on the pent-up rage and punish/rectify imagined ills.
Indeed, I’ve been hearing “President X is going to impose martial law & cancel elections!” for several decades, regardless of party of those involved. BHO’s specialty is smoky backroom deals, not leading armies in total devotion to his cause. He may buy off the election, but he can’t cancel it.
