President Obama plans to announce in Cushing, Oklahoma Thursday that his administration will expedite the permit process for the southern half of the Keystone XL pipeline, a source familiar with the presidents announcement tells CNN.
In January, the Obama administration denied a permit for the 1,700 mile long Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would stretch from Canadas tar sands development to the U.S. Gulf Coast. That decision was met by persistent Republican criticism that the president has not been doing everything possible to create jobs and combat high gas prices
Senior administration officials would not confirm the presidents plan to unveil the effort to cut red tape for the project, though one senior administration official acknowledged the need to deal with the glut of oil in Cushing, where oil from the Midwest hits a bottleneck as it is transported to the Gulf of Mexico.
Follow the progression here.
The polling on gas prices generally and Keystone in particular is horrific. No less than Bill Clinton gives a speech three weeks ago urging Democrats to embrace the pipeline.
McConnell forces a Senate vote on approving the pipeline and gets 11 Democrats to switch sides; so close is the final margin that The One himself is forced to lobby skittish Dems to stick with him.
And then that CBS poll drops last week showing his job approval suddenly in a tailspin, with gas prices the only obvious explanation.
He had to do something so this is what he did a cosmetic gesture to help speed the construction by a few months of a pipeline that was always going to be built anyway. I bet itll help him in the polls, too. Coming soon: Obama signs executive order instructing IRS to send refunds to people who overpay their taxes.

Seems to be some symmetry here... a half wit approves half a pipeline.
Obozo already stopped construction of the pipeline through the northern section of the USA from Canada - what will “approval” of the southern section do, other than look like he is actually doing something when he is doing nothing at all?
Um... what good is half a pipline? (and not even the half that connects to the source of the oil... geez what a dumbass)
So is this now the Pipeline to Nowhere? Approving half is, I think, good news (?), only because he will have to approve the other half eventually. This half-gas solution will get the libs and ecos mad and will sting Obama in the fall. He sure makes strange decisions (scratching my head).
Thats not a bug it’s a feature. They get to crow about “jobs” in the construction part, that they are “doing something about oil prices” and in the end have a pipeline to nowhere that won’t carry a barrel of oil. Perfect.
This is the left hand attempting distract you while the right hand steals your wallet.
Instead of a “bridge to nowhere”, Obama gives you a “pipeline from nowhere”.
This is all all show no go. First of all, what economic unit anywhere on the planet is going to fund the building of a pipeline to nowhere? Answer, none but O turd will then say they are not doing it which is keeping job creation low, not his fault. A second answer, he is approving nothing, he is going to facilitate “the approval process”. Right, move that application from the bottom of the pile to the second from the bottom position.
Kind of like California’s mythical bullet train from SF to LA. They are plainning on starting to build the first 50 miles of so in the Central Valley, at a cost of billions, despite having nothing in place to build the rest of it.
How stupid can people be
Shows the obamites will pull any trick they can to pump up perceptions the economy is improving over the next 10 months
also shows the perils of the GOP running an unlikeable rich stiff who has only one campaign issue- the economy
Another pipeline from Cushing to the Gulf has been needed for years. It's a very worthwhile project. I doubt Obama had anything to do with the decision, however.
Google "Cushing bottleneck" if you're interested in the background.
It has great strategic value with voters who aren't paying attention or only get their news from the MSM.
Just as he now takes credit for 'increased domestic oil production' that are not the result of HIS oil-suppressing policies, he'll be able talk creating jobs and helping to boost the supply of oil from friendly countries rather than the dangerous middle east.
Simply put, he's going after every last inattentive voter with half-truths and chicanery.
So we should call this “the Pipeline to nowhere?”
That's the epitome of political weakness.
People will fall all over each other lining up to vote Obama out.
Despite all the pretending on tv that he is so well “liked”, people realize Obama is an arrogant, lying, leftist fool.
After the election he can cancel what he approves. This is simply President Flim-flam-a practicing his customary deceit.
Pardon me for patting myself on the back, folks, but I believe I deserve a special commendation for not making a Lewinsky joke.
