Well, in my mind a 17 year old is still a child, mentally if not physically. More importantly though is that he was somebody’s child, and there is a grieving family right with a hole in their hearts they will never be able to fill. Mr. Martin may not have been a saint, but he didn’t deserve to die like that.
As to the politicization of this tragic situation, well, all I can say is that everybody (and I do mean everybody, this includes the Rev. Al Sharpton and his friends) who wants to turn it into a symbol for their favorite cause should take a deep breath and reflect upon the sheer senselessness of the whole thing, say a prayer for the boy and his family and then let the criminal justice system take it from here.
If the facts are as they have been reported (and I have no reason to believe that they aren’t) then I expect that the Justice Department and/or the State authorities will bring charges against Mr. Zimmerman after their investigation has been completed and Mr. Zimmerman will have his day in court. If he’s truly innocent, then he will have the opportunity to prove his case. Having said that, I must admit that having listened to the 911 tapes, I suspect that his goose is cooked, and rightly so.
Unfortunately 17 year olds commit all kinds of violent crimes increasing in numbers. And black males particularly.
Hopefully the truth will be found out and justice done, which unfortunately is increasingly rare, and with the race pimps slavering to turn it into a hatefest, is more nad more doubtful, esp. with the racist DOJ getting involved.
And hoping that Sharpton and others of his ilk will ever reflect on anything other than fomenting race hatred and their own lust for power is nothing but silly talk. They’re wedded to their hatred and nothing will ever change them.
