Come on. Be honest. You don’t believe that Santorum bears any responsibility in this?
As the candidate he does, as does the MSM, as does the Romney campaign who have run an epically negative campaign so far, as does the establishment GOP supporting Romney.
As do all the political neophytes who spent the last couple of months bashing him at every turn on internet forums. They're doing their little part, too.
At least my conscience is clean.
This is the GOP-e game, and they have done it for every four years now, the last true Conservative Republican being Ronald Reagan and even that represented a bottom-up, grassroots rebellion against both GOP-e and the MSM arrayed against him. This fix is in, has been for weeks and months. Next it will be amplified by "conservative" talk show hosts already in the tank to urge the lemmings to go over the cliff for Bishop Romney as a "fait d'accompli" which they engineered from the start and knocked out conservative after conservative threat in this race. Bachman. Cain (joined the media circus and did not come to his defense). Perry. Next will be Gingrigh and Santorum for sure. This is who I hold responsible, the GOP Establishment and their water carriers.
Denial and dishonesty are part-and-parcel of Santorum's presidential campaign if not his political career; it's not surprising it would be a theme with his activists as well.
Those RINO votes? He "took one for the team." His 18-point loss? Tough year for Republicans and Bush's fault. Squandering double-digit leads in MI and OH? Newt's fault. War on porn? Press's fault. He's got clean hands on healthcare ... Just ignore the '92 & '94 support for individual health insurance mandates, Romney & Specter endorsements...
His "I, I, I, me, me, me" chest-puffing is bizarrely juxtaposed with his cries of powerlessness, victimhood and lack of responsibility. Sorry Santorum, but I've gotten more than enough of that from Obama.
