Actually, March 22 was the “predicted” 188th day...and in some forums local vs UTC time was argued... So the window is pretty wide. But...though this IS a “major” quake, it’s not that rare (in the 7s). 7.6 and almost 11 miles deep (which is shallow) is significant.
A reminder, that this could still be a “foreshock” to a larger quake. Twitter has reports of series of aftershocks happening. Fukushima was pre sexed by two 7 range foreshocks (if you are going by 188 day pattern).
