PANIC NATION!
yeah try using that on persistant panhandlers...looks like a very vague statute to me..
C’mon guys the sign on the side of the Barrington Police cars even reads “ Police and Taxi Service. Here To Protect and Chaffeur”
Have a nice day, officers. You can come back with a warrant.
Perhaps it did, and perhaps they were right to do so. But, for the police to come out and conduct an interrogation of someone being accused of a crime without first advising him of what was about, the police probably violated procedure by not saying he had a right to not answer questions. They had all the info they needed, the car license, the complaint (of what I don’t know as making someone uncomfortable is hardly a crime). Anyway, first advice when confronted by a cop is say your identity and ask what is this about, don’t answer anything till you know what is going on. The cop is not an arbitrator. Two cops coming to visit is a real danger sign.
From the linked article: “Peterson says he saw two young girls, ages 13, leave a Shell gas station in the Barrington, Illinois area on cold wintery day without coats, umbrellas or hoods.”
*************************************************************
And the girls and their parents were “uncomfortable”? What the hell is the matter with the IDIOTIC PARENTS who would allow their early-teen daughters go out in this kind of weather without being properly dressed for the weather.
I realize that the laws differ from state to state, but in my state, the officers could go ahead and issue the citation, but could not make an arrest if it were not signed, because the misdemeanor did not occur in their presence.
I advise all to avoid bringing agents of the government into the mix. It’s better to work things out without them, if at all possible.
Yep.
And when a REAL Parent shows Parental Concern, he is branded as a predator.
I know what you mean. I do nighttime volunteer work at a downtown church. Often on the way home I see solitary women walking to their cars or waiting at a bus stop. I don’t like to think of them all alone at night in a dodgy neighborhood, but I’m too scared to offer them a lift.
Chivalry is dead — but not from natural causes.
Weirdo! ;-D
The Barrington Pigs are the villains in this story. Both evil and stupid.
How do I know? Simple logic condemns them. They charged him with disorderly conduct. That's logically absurd. Either he's totally innocent (obvious), or they needed to throw the book at him.
I would like to see Barrington's tax rate go up to pay a judgement to this man. That would teach the sheeple of Barrington a nice lesson!
ROFL!!!!!!!
I had a music store back in the eighties from where I gave music instructions on a certain night. There was a room for that purpose only. There were 9 girls and 3 boys. The amount of knowledge they could absorb was stunning.
But,I had one student that DID NOT WANT to learn.Dad pressured her[even though he played]to have her take lessons from me.For the student,it was a traumatic experience. Her mother tried to make me give her lessons so I tried to allow her mom to sit in.No go.If the child made a mistake, the first thing she did was look at her mom.It became very sad as all the child did was cry.I finally told her mom,no more.I can and will not force anyone to play if the desire was not there. After her mother screaming at me and more or less threaten me,it was over.Poor child. At any time,[which i never gave much thought to]any student could have made an ugly made up story about me[he touched me!]and my world would never have been the same.In this day and age would I ever do it again??NO WAY
Same with Scouting.I feel after all the extensive Military training I have under my belt I could teach the skills of first aid, compass, all the basics a scout needs. No Way It only takes one incident to derail your life.Or one spoiled little child who is mad for whatever reason or another.[No playstation,T.V.,etc.]
If the girls were not where they were supposed to be, or were to get in trouble for breaking curfew for something, there'd be no limit to the lies they would tell to save their own butts.
should be “or something.”
With a bulky jacket and all I couldn't tell gender - but I stopped and asked if they wanted a ride.
A woman turned with a white face of fear and terror and said “NO!!!!!”.
“OK then.” And I drove off. I was a bit taken aback by her fear. I mean - I might be tempted to cut her up and leave her dead in a ditch - but then I would have been late for class and messed up my >3.7 GPA!!!/s
trying to do the police job?
Taking food out of the cops family mouth and all that....
Throw the book at him and make an example of him.
Going off only what I've read here on this thread.....
Either there's a lot more to this story than what we're reading regarding the male subject (possible, less likely).
Or, these two girls are looking for attention (good possibility)....
Or their parents are hyperventillating liberals who overreact at the slightest provocation (I'd bet on this one - "Yeah Mom, this old guy tried to give us a ride home...." and they're off to the races.)
It will be interesting to see what a judge/jury does with this...if in fact the DA is dumb enough to pursue it!
