Peyton has morals too
I do not have any knowledge of Peyton off the field, one thing you can safely say though - Peyton has not made Christ as public as Tebow. I'm not saying Manning is or is not a christian, but Tebow is a Christian first and football player second. Elway is clearly bothered by that.
I happen to know a little about the former Mrs. Elway, at least that she took classes at a Christan seminary, ostensibly to increase her faith and knowledge of Christ. John was a player during his playing days and I suspect that the former Mrs. Elway has given some appropriate christian admonishments and rebukes. From what I've observed, I think John Elway is bitter against a Christianity that takes first place in one's life. Manning helps move Tebow off the team and chances are that even if he is a man of faith, he will be retired soon and won't cause that "why couldn't you be more like him" voice in his head.
For bronco fans, Manning will always be a Colt. Ray Bourque was a bit like Manning, a gentleman, classy and hall of fame bound, but after wining a Stanley-cup in Colorado he packed up and went away, wore his bruins jersey as he was inducted in the hall of fame and was quickly forgotten. This the best possible fate for Manning. But this is different, Borque did not displace the fan's favorite, Manning will. I do not think ill of Peyton, but I think this is the Red Sox -Babe Ruth moment. No, No, Nanette will be be off Broadway long before the impact of Tebow ceases to thrill and inspire.
