Outstanding public schools? I lived there in ‘85 and ‘86 and their public schools were anything but outstanding.

That's because they weren't building $200M and $300M high schools back then...

California had outstanding public schools until Jerry Browns first term as Governor. The teachers and other public employees were not unionized until he signed a state law allowing them to form or join national unions.

It was then that the natural greed of lesser men became the tsunami that has ever since destroyed the economy of the state. Of course, they (libs) blame Prop.13, saying it was the "Greedy Geezers"/s/ who didn't want to pay their fair share when their house property values got reassessed upward. And if your house was in a desireable area with top notch schools - Marin County for example, from the early 70's all thru the 80's to the 92/93 recession, houses were increasing in the high single to double digit value every year.

If the "Greedy Geezers"/s/ couldn't come up with the property taxes, they had to move and sell. Thus the raison d'etre for Prop.13.
