President Barack Obama and his green energy confederates are determined to scare the public about a declining supply of "fossil fuels." If we accept the idea that oil is produced by the conversion of organic matter -- from plants to dinosaurs -- under extreme pressure, we must also accept the idea that there is a limited supply of oil and that we've got to do everything we can to find a replacement for fossil fuels before we run out.
The evidence is mounting that not only do we have more than a century's worth of recoverable oil in the United States alone (even if there is a limit to the earth's oil supply), but that we also actually have a limitless supply of Texas tea because oil is in fact a renewable resource that is being constantly created deep under the earth's surface and which rises upward, where microscopic organisms that thrive in the intense pressure and heat miles below us interact with and alter it.
In other words, we have an unending supply of oil, some of which is constantly migrating upward from the depths at which it is created to refill existing oil deposits, and much more of which remains far below the surface. This oil can be recovered using existing technology. Scientist Thomas Gold presents the decades-old theory of "abiotic" oil-creation, which supports these facts, in his book, The Deep Hot Biosphere. In it he explains that the idea of the "biotic" creation of "fossil fuels" -- that decaying organic matter is compressed into oil -- is incorrect. In fact, the earth is constantly producing new oil very deep below its surface, and in some cases the oil flows up to replenish existing oil fields thought to be exhausted.

Methane’s Critical Temperature is -87.4°C

At temperatures above a molecule’s critical temperature, liquid phase cannot be achieved.

You can continue to add pressure and reduce the volume, but you will not form a liquid, just a really dense gas. Then you need to figure a way to deal with the pressure.
LNG is contained in heavily insulated vessels, at atmospheric temperatures. The LNG must be below -259°F at atmospheric pressures to remain liquid.

I react to this the way I react to AGW stuff: Show me the science.
The reason why we stopped using CFC’s is because you could create a lab experiment that showed that CFC’s destroyed ozone using pretty small quantities of CFCs.
Everybody went along with the ban and found other ways of doing refrigeration.
We ought to be able to figure out how this replenishment is happening, why it is happening at scale, and present some sort of experiment in a lab. I would think that having petroleum reclassified as a ‘renewable resource’ would be political incentive enough to get something like this done.
We all know AGW is crap. We know it because there isn’t a shred of scientific evidence indicating AGW occurs on a scale big enough to move the climate needle.
If oil is renewable, then science should bear it out.
I remember fondly the idiotic films I watched in grade school showing how dinosaurs died, went into the ground, pressure was applied, and oil happened. We now know that is pure, unmitigated bilge. How that wasn’t caught earlier is telling.
Huh? How do they determine the geological age of oil?
Gold had lots of theories.
Gold (nor anyone else) produced oil by his theories.
Biotic oil “theory” allows petroleum geologist to find oil for commercial production.
Abiotic oil theory allows con artists to produce money from gullible investors and occasionally governments. It also produces a lot of worthless emails and related internet junk.
God has indeed given man a renewable energy source:

Fair Oaks Farm in Indiana shows us how. If you ever do a road trip to the Chicago,Northwest Indiana area, be sure to stop by and spend the day. They do tours and you get to see up close the process from milk to Ice Cream and other dairy products. Most days you can even witness a live birth of a calf!
That's the bottom line behind all of the anthropogenic global warming foolishness. If WE caused the problem then WE can fix it because WE are the most powerful beings known to exist. That's their thought process, because there's no way that they'll accept the idea that we're not in control of all we survey.
George Carlin's "Save the Planet" routine (on YouTube) stung the lefties badly because it mocked their hubris.
Yes, I was speaking of oil. When it continues to decay, it will produce more methane.
Older petroleum fields are often identified as “thermally mature”. Enough time and heat and little is left but methane.
In the refineries, we apply the same principle, adding pressure and heat to thermally crack heavier petroleum molecules into lighter ones that are more valuable (gasoline, diesel, etc). Those process also produce methane, ethane and the like. Process engineers spend a lot of time tweaking the exact oil to pressure/heat/time combinations to maximize the desired products.
They don't. They just convince the gullible with simple articles that they did.

Open your mind Newbie.
Oh and let me just add, thackney is FR’s premier energy experts. He has much more than a 5th or 6th grade education.
Keep in mind they only want to see that stuff until it starts becoming successful and popular. Then they want to shut down the windmills because they kill birds and so forth. The environmentalists' goal is to punish humanity for existing. Every other goal they claim to have is just something they use as an excuse.
An silly theory. For decades we have used heat and pressure to break down oil into smaller, less complex molecules.
We can make methane (natural gas) out of crude oil this way, but the target is to take the heavy crude and make gasoline, diesel etc.
What happens in the earth is the complex organic molecules of mostly algae, plankton, etc get trapped without an oxygen source on the bottom of lake and sea beds. Their complex organic molecules are reduced to hydrocarbon molecules. If enough heat, pressure and time is given, it will break down nearly all of it to natural gas.

With land plants, the similar process creates coal.

I thought the animations at the link would be simple enough for you to understand.
You can look at the geochemical isotopes of both the oil and the source rock and find the source of the crude. Kind of like a DNA match for humans.
Just the more vocal one. Plenty of FReepers here know more than I on the subject. Many of them get tired of battling windmills.
“It doesn’t matter if oil is a renewing resource. What matters is whether new oil is being created at a rate comparable to the rate at which it is being consumed.”
I’m no scientist, but being on FR has taught me to think a bit.....That said, what if drilling a well and removing oil somehow “stimulates” the creation process and the more we use then the more is created?
I’m just throwing an idea on the table....
;-)
“Abiotic oil theory allows con artists to produce money from gullible investors and occasionally governments. It also produces a lot of worthless emails and related internet junk. “
Well put, unlike those of us in thr industry that have to produce real rather than imaginary oil.
When I close my eyes, I see a guy with a slide rule, a pocket protector, a box of old Texaco pencil extenders (so you could use them down to the nub,) and a copy of SPE’s “Greatest Hits”, including Gas-Lift Valve Installation (or How to Become a Mom and Pop), Underbalanced Drilling as a Reality Show, and Where Have All the Tubing-Conveyed Perforators Gone?
