The TN Democrat Party was akin to a House of Cards. One strong breeze and a total collapse. Absent Watergate, their fall would’ve occurred in the 1970s. Gerrymandering, weak GOP leaders, tyrannical and manipulative Dem leadership, big $$, and power of incumbency kept them going as long as they did.
Once the GOP broke through, the Democrats collapsed and will likely be almost exclusively a Black & urban ultraleft White coalition. The rural Democrats that used to run the show are swiftly being replaced by Republicans (Lt Gov John Wilder’s seat went to one, as will Naifeh’s). The current Dem House Minority Leader is from a rural district and is endangered.
I can’t see any potential comeback for them unless they completely go against their leftist leanings, and the activist grass(nut)roots believe that the party isn’t left-wing enough and tries to be GOP-lite. If the Dems indulge them, they won’t win races outside those urban locales for years to come.
Naifehs retirement brought a smile to my face. About time.
I wanted to see him defeated outright. He didn’t want to stick around for that.
It’s a shame he survived 2010.
