Texas unveiled the second of six new 'interceptor' gunboats on Thursday, similar to Navy swift boats that plied the rivers of Vietnam during the Vietnam War, to patrol the waterways of the Mexico border.
"They have night vision capabilities, they have ballistic shielding, and the first couple of boats have fully automatic machine guns," department spokesman Tom Vinger told Reuters.
The boats are emblazoned with the words 'Texas Highway Patrol,' each will have three super quiet 300 horsepower outboard engines.
The boats will be allowed to patrol the northern half of the Rio Grande between El Paso and its mouth near Brownsville, because the international boundary line runs down the middle of the river.

How long before racism is screamed?
It won’t be long before obama and his cronies try to put a stop to this. They don’t want anything to disrupt the flow of voters and terrorists that cross daily.
In 1836, Robert Potter (later Senator Potter) took the helm as the first Secretary of the Texas Navy.
It has never stopped, we just don't hear it anymore. My guess is everyone in those boats will probably be Hispanic anyway.
Not to be outdone by a bunch of rednecks, AG Holder has recommissioned several mothballed WWII killer-hunter submarines to patrol the Rio Grande to find and sink these new Texas boats.
Appropriately, Holder has selected crews from among the SUBHUMANS now infesting the Obama MALadministration.
Calling Jon Cary who served on a boat. It think it was in Vietnam, in fact!
That's good to hear, because those bolt action and semi-automatic machine guns just aren't up to snuff.
"Fully automatic machine guns"...
As redundant as "Stupid reporter".
All that boat needs is a pair of Texas Longhorn horns on the bow for ramming.
Twin 240Golfs, I like the firepower.
I think Red Jacket built the gun/mounts for them.
I would add a Ma Deuce, so they can “reach out and touch” folks hassling them from a distance...
LOL
Two comments were posted, one at 6:42 and one at 6:57. Both are very favorable to the boats.
Then we see: “This discussion is now closed. We welcome comments on our articles for a limited time after their publication.”
I guess for Reuters a “limited time” is 15 minutes.
I hope that these are well armored and that the Highway Patrolmen manning them also have quality body armor. They can expect to take fire from the Mexican side. I’m sure that they will have conducted pre-planning for various contingencies including that situation.
If the anti-Americans Holder & Obama (and the hopeful internationalist overlord Hillary) do not like the Texas “rules of engagement” they will bring down the force of the various agencies of the Department of Injustice on Texas like a ton of bricks. DOJ has an endless supply of progressive lawyers on the payroll ready for duty. But I’m assuming that Texas and Governor Perry will be prepared for this and will stand firm. Stand firm in a way that the Arizona governor has not been seen fit to do (at least in a 100% hardcore fashion).
It’s a start. When we start using Napalm and AC-130s I’ll feel even better.
Hows about we put the Ma Deuce in the back to cover its six and then put a 30mm GAU-8 Avenger Gatling gun (same used by the A-10 Wart Hog) that fires at up to 4,200 rounds a minute?
If it is too much for the boat then go with the 20mm M61 Vulcan Gatling gun. It fires about 6,000 rounds a minute. It has been used on the F-104, F-106, F-111, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18 and several others.
Could make an impression on some bad guys! When care to only send the very best!
How about AC-130 Spectre gun ships?
