Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman did in fact have some other entries to brighten 1959. This is a great song, and in the middle eight bars, Mort quotes the Middle 8 of the famous Brahms “Lullaby”. It’s an inspired touch.
The Mystics: “Hushabye”
This song got an exceptional recording from the Beach Boys in 1964. Brian Wilson slowed the song down – after all, lullabies aren’t supposed to rock – and he starts the song with the quote from Brahms. The group elevates the song to art.
