There was a tradition of taking Italian songs and giving them English lyrics, even if those lyrics had nothing whatever to do with the original Italian words. Vic Damones Youre Breakin My Heart and Dusty Springfields You Dont Have to Say You Love Me fall into this category. Even Elvis had done this with Its Now or Never. In 1961,
Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman took the old Italian ballad Come Back to Sorrento and managed to match Sorrento with surrender.
