Statement on 29th Senate District Recall Election

[Madison, WI...] The Committee to Elect a Republican Senate (CERS) released the following statement today regarding the recall election in the 29th Senate District:

“We are very sorry to see Senator Galloway go,” said Dan Romportl, Executive Director of CERS. “Pam’s dedication to her constituents, her leadership in the areas of health policy and economic development, and her unwavering commitment to laying the groundwork for northern Wisconsin job creation was admired by her peers in Madison and back home. We wish Senator Galloway the best of luck in her future endeavors, and would like nothing more than to see a full recovery from her family members that are currently experiencing health challenges.

“Regarding the election itself, Senator Galloway’s resignation will not change the recall election timeline for the 29th Senate District seat.

“Under Wisconsin statutes, once a recall election is triggered, it moves forward with or without the legislator that has been targeted. Senator Galloway’s name will not appear on the ballot, and instead will be replaced by a new Republican candidate, who will have to obtain the required number of nomination paper signatures in order to gain ballot access.

“We hope to make an announcement regarding the new Republican candidate before the Government Accountability Board’s certification of the race, which will likely take place between March 26 and March 30.”

Would re-election have been a problem? I tend to think not, considering how well Walker has turned around Wisconsin.

Galloway’s district should be safe. The only thing that worries me is that the pro-recall people are more motivated. There are fewer of them up north.
