Republican Congressman Connie Mack now posts a seven-point lead over Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in Floridas U.S. Senate race, and the incumbent remains just ahead of his other two potential GOP rivals.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Florida shows Mack with 43% support to Nelsons 36%. Five percent (5%) like another candidate in the race, and a sizable 16% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
A month ago, Mack and Nelson were tied at 41% apiece. Last November, Mack, a congressman from the Fort Myers/Naples area of the state, led 43% to 39%.
If former U.S. Senator George LeMieux is the Republican candidate, Nelson is ahead by a narrow 41% to 38%. That compares to 45%-35% last month. Five percent (5%) now prefer another candidate given that matchup. Seventeen percent (17%) are undecided. Then-Governor Charlie Crist named LeMieux to the Senate in September 2009 to complete the term of Senator Mel Martinez who resigned from office early. LeMieux chose not to seek a full Senate term in the 2010 elections because of Crists decision to run. Crist was defeated by Marco Rubio.
Nelson now leads businessman Mike McCalister, the other top GOP hopeful, 42% to 38%. Given this matchup, four percent (4%) favor another candidate, and 15% are undecided. This is essentially unchanged from a month ago.

LeMieux got a high ACU score while serving only one year; Mack has done it for almost a decade now. And LeMieux had a very liberal record in FL; check this out: http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/legislature/for-insight-on-george-lemieux-look-to-his-failed-1998-bid-for-office/1031985
McCalister, of course, has never cast a vote on anything, so we can judge him only on his words. That being said, given my distrust for Mack, I will take my chances and support McCalister if he can prove to have a firm grasp of the issues, be competent on the campaign trail and raise money. FL can certainly elect a conservative, as Marco Rubio proved in 2010, but it won’t elect just *any* conservative.
Debbie Wasserman-sxchiltz is deeply saddened..aww..
We’d better work to ensure that Debbie Whatshername Shitferbrains does not get re-elected!
Wouldn’t that be a feather in the Conservative Cap?
Actually,IMHO, having her as the face of the Dems is good for the GOP
Bill Nelson is an imbecile.....something happened to him in outer space.
I’ve heard George LeMieux speak in person recently at the local Republic Party Executive Committee meeting. He’s very much in tune with the Tea Party.
