Seems to me that it would be more efficient to drill more and work out the the little things than to jack up prices to shut down everything and come up with off the wall solutions. Where are we going to get billions of gallons of glucose and what are the unintended consequences?

Where does the E Coli get the glucose and the energy to produce the gas? Those will be the rate determining factors.

That said, being able to convert sugar into a liquid as energy dense as gasoline would be a nice technology to have in our hip pockets. It still won’t compete with gas from the ground for a long time.
