And they got to keep it? I inherited some money from an uncle in CA, and the state of CA tried to keep a percentage of it! Even though I had never lived or worked in CA. And it was after the estate had paid the death tax. It took 4 months after filing CA tax forms, and even though I was assured by the tax preparer that I owed CA nothing, they still kept about $20, and the preparer said not to bother trying to get it.

Her parents are still alive and they set it up so CA cant steal it. They fled CA while her parents are still alive.
