If Mitt Romney wins the Republican presidential nomination, he'll have many options for a running mate. His current rival, Rick Santorum, probably won't be one of them. Romney said as much Monday when Neil Cavuto asked him on Fox Business if he would choose a candidate to his right in order to win the election. "Well that would preclude, of course, Rick Santorum," Romney said. "Because, I mean, look at his record. I find it interesting that he continues to describe himself as the real conservative. This is the guy who voted against the right to work, this is the guy who voted to fund Planned Parenthood, this is the person who voted to raise the debt ceiling five times. ... It's my way of saying that Rick Santorum is not a person who is an economic conservative, to my right. I'm saying I'm a conservative, I give him credit for being a conservative, but not a fiscal conservative. His record does not suggest he's got the fiscal conservative chops that I have."

ObaMao and his minions in the media have done such a complete job of Balkanizing America that I don’t think we will ever see another presidential ticket, Democrat or Republican, with two white guys.
So Romney isn’t going to accept the VP slot? Interesting.
Hopefully, Newt will have the last say!
Hey, Mittens, why don’t we look at YOUR liberal record? What audacity to claim he is a conservative. Lord, I hope he isn’t our nominee. I rate him on a level with zero, and most know how much I loathe the marxist-in-chief. No, I don’t believe Willard is a marxist, however, his policies are similar to obamas. Soros was right - the ideal ticket would be obama/romney.
(Romney:) “Well that would preclude, of course, Rick Santorum...”
______________
Title is misleading. Cavuto asked Romney; IF he would choose someone to his “right” politically. Romney never answers that question; he merely replies that IF he were to choose someone to his “right” that would eliminate Santorum.
Romney then makes a comparison of what he considers his own level of “conservatism” to Rick's and surmises that he is just as conservative (or more conservative) than Rick; therefore, Romney is proposing that he does NOT consider Rick to be to his “right.”
It's definitely a “dig” at Rick; but, it still doesn't preclude Rick from being Romney's possible VeeP selection because Romney never confirms that he would pick a VeeP he considers to the “right” of himself.
The first rule of lying is that you must be consistent. If he isn't a fiscal conservative, then he must at least be a social conservative, and yet he voted for PP implying he isn't a social conservative. This is the smart guy.
If Romney had any sense, he would choose Allen West or Alan Keyes as a VP running mate. At least, he needs a conservative.
Back in 2008, I did not see one single McCain sign or bumper sticker in East Texas until he chose Palin, then they just seem to pop up everywhere.
I agree. Typical Romney gaffe, backtracks everything he said to the point it has no real meaning. What the author of the article Chris Moody concludes Romney meant, or intended to say, does not follow logically from what was actually said.
The problem is would West help Romney; or, would Romney marginalize West??? Look what McCain did to Palin’s “favorables.” Personally, I think Allen West would be wise to steer waaaaay clear of Mitt. West has too much potential to be wasted on a Romney ticket. Besides, we need West in Congress!
Keyes, though eloquent in his defense of Conservatism, is a non-starter in my estimation. He couldn't even win a Senate race in Illinois against the Bamster. Mitt won't pick Keyes in my estimation. Mitt would pick Bob McDonnell long before he would pick Keyes.
Mitt will probably pick someone like Marco Rubio in the hope of winning the Hispanic vote; which I very much doubt will happen.
