"He (Huckaby) is also stressing that both Newt and Santorum can hold Romney down best, if they stay in as long as possible."

I've wondered if that is the case, but would like to understand his rationale for that.

I wouldn't think a lot of Gingrich or Santorum voters would flock to Romney, if one dropped out. But you never know.

On the otherhand, if Gingrich would accept a VP spot and they combined forces, I wouldn't think they would lose any voters to Romney.

As opposed to the Romney/Paul allegiance, where I suspect that if Paul dropped out, that Paul's followers would not choose big government Romney as their first choice.

What I cited, was taken from exit polls in a state that Newt won (Georgia) they said that with out Newt they would go to Romney instead. They most certainly cannot stand Santorum. They see through his phony exterior.

I almost forgot, those voters surveyed, also said that their reasons were on the belief that Obama would destroy Santorum if he is nominated, and that even though they don't like Romney, that he had a better chance of beating Obama.

Romney would be their next choice. They're driven more by their hate than of anything positive. And they hate "neocons" and "family values" conservatives more than anything else. Being as pro-Israel as Newt is a non-starter.
