Liberty Lost: H.R. 347 Threatens First Amendment Freedoms

ast week the United States Congress passed dangerous legislation that would make free speech a felony and seriously restrict political protest. The legislation will give federal agents sweeping powers to arrest and bring felony criminal charges against citizens engaged in political protests anywhere in the U.S.

H.R. 347, The Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011, threatens the right to protest and assemble in government buildings or on public or private grounds where events of “national significance” are taking place.

Critics claim the legislation is aimed at curbing forms of protest associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement, as well as deterring any future protests at the G-8 Summit scheduled for this spring.

was passed by “unanimous consent,” thus no record is available of which Senators approved or disapproved of this potentially draconian legislation.

Another way of looking at this, is that any single senator could have asked for a roll call vote. Since none did, they all colluded to hide the vote. Any senatecritter that tries to deny supporting this legislation is lying.

FRiend, I just got on board with this yesterday, and the more I read and learned the more I came to the hard truth - we have NO “representation” in Washington.

This bill was introduced in the House on 01/18/11, passed the House on 02/28/11. It then arriving and passed through the Senate just under a YEAR later, 02/05/12.

Our Tea Party met last night, and I reported on this. Every one was stunned, in principle AND because no had heard anything about it AT ALL, and it has been in the works for over a YEAR. Our TP director said she couldn’t believe that none of the “big” TP groups had not discovered this and raised the call.

To me, that could have only happened if our “representatives” purposefully KEPT it under the radar, because it served only to protect THEM, and to silence the American people who have had enough of their elite-st demands.

Further, near 50% of the people in the country have their collective hands out, the largest employer is the Federal government, and the 535 “representatives” in Washington serve ONLY themselves.

Lord, we cannot do it without you.
Give us strength.

I’ve long believed that the “two” parties are nothing but a single entity with two faces. Perhaps instead of my “Vote Cthulhu” yardsign this year, I should put together a “Vote Janus” one instead.

Unfortunately, I've come to believe that as a nation, we are doomed. What's truly ironic is that I also believe that sites like FR are what is keeping the current government in power and able to do what they want--because we can let off steam here and not actually do anything about it.

Don't get me wrong--I love FR, and this is where I get my news. But it also lets off a lot of steam and I know the same thing goes on for others. With that going on, we're more likely, not less, to allow things to continue as they are since we think that merely yelling about it will change things.

It won't. Nothing will change until we, as a group, get off our butts and do something.

The Internet has killed the US that I knew.
