What Newt told Marianne after he gave a speech on family values in Penssylvania. I have no doubt Newt said this because it fits in with all of his other flip-flops, and technically it’s true. He knows how to talk two sides out of an issue better than anyone. If he wasn’t so good at it, he’d be another Mitt Romney flip-flopper.

Please, as a santorum supporter, just answer my question. What does the following episode in Rick Santorum's life, where he betrayed American veterans with a wormy little amendment say about the character of the man? Luckily, I get to wait for June 5 to cast my ballot, and will vote for California's huge 172 delegates which might keep one of these four from sealing the nomination, and will vote for the one least likely to win, and with the help of the Texans, who most likely will hold their primary about the same time, we will be able to force an open convention.
If that occurs, there is a strong possibility that the convention could find a nominee that we can all get behind, whoever she is.
Did the Forum cover how Newt supported CAP AND TRADE (and so did Romney), but Rick Santorum did NOT SUPP0RT CAP AND TRADE?
Did the Forum cover how Santorum wrote the bill on Medicare reform, while in Congress?
Did it cover how not only did NRA A+ rating Rick Santorum vote for our 2nd Amendment rights, but he FOUGHT to keep gun companies in the U.S.A.! Santorum gets things done, because he is a figher!

Just curious, as I don’t have cable.
If people are not consistent and mind their “Ps” and “Qs”, I affirm/promise, (without comment), I am going to start bumping and reviving thread after thread after thread on FR from the 2000s which were overwhelmingly anti-Newt Gingrich, that is to say the majority of posters in so many of these FR threads had not the kindest words for the man and his policies, votes and endorsements. We will let the Free Republic of the past speak for itself, in its own words, sans 2012 editorialization. Therein, in those threads and those days, not a few Freepers gave solid justification after justification why they no longer wanted Mr. Speaker involved in GOP doings on, but to kindly stick to teaching and retirement.
Okay, here’s what I posted in another thread regarding my impressions:
I watched both candidates. This was a good forum to actually view the candidates. Alabama did a great job.
Both candidates did well. Santorum started out a little slow but once he began talking about bigger issues/concepts of this election, he hit it out of the park.
Gingrich did very well, also. His presentation was shorter (there was no time limit) and more specific.
What I found interesting was the contrast that this kind of forum highlighted between the two candidates. Gingrich is a quick answer, detailed idea man. Santorum is a big picture, core principle man. Gingrich seems to be more top down solution, where Santorum is more of a bottom up (from the people) solution man.
Gingrich gets you cheering when he’s blasting obama or telling you the way something should be done. Santorum speaks about larger concepts/principcles building up to his point (in this talk, it was about freedom). Santorum’s style is more inspirational.....I haven’t heard a presidential candidate be able to talk/communicate like that in some time.
Here’s a little one-minute vid of a debate awhile back, where Newt schooled Junior, and got a fulsome standing O; just another variation of what happened tonight. since you’ve appointed yourself the Ps&Qs Police, I figured you’d appreciate the abbreviated version, so as to make the best use of your time in order to carry out your new duties fully.

I still say you’d get more people to read what you write if you didn’t use unreadable fonts. And didn’t sound like you wanted to bash people over the head, or as though you thought you were somehow entitled to an answer to your question.
Anybody who thinks that a single incident defines a person’s character will never truly have a candidate, unless they are really good at ignoring bad things about their choice.
You might as well ask what sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi tells us about Gingrich’s character — it would be a similarly useless.
I caught a little of Santorum on Mark Levin’s show tonight, and was impressed at how much detail he got into over the Obama’s attacks on our economy, not only discussing oil exploration and the problems of Obama standing in the way, but morphing into a discussion of how Pennsylvania is lucky because the government didn’t take all it’s land so they could drill, about how they had been fracking for a long time, and even how the workers had to live in crappy temporary homes because builders wouldn’t invest because Obama was threatening to shut down the oil industry in these areas.
Thus, he tied “developing oil resources” to “get government out of our lives” and “Obama’s threatened regulations and actions are hampering our recovery”.
And all based on an off-hand question Mark Levin asked. It was clear that Santorum has a solid grasp of this issue.
Actually, Newt did that up front and publicly - as well all know very well. Very publicly with many records of it. He has also said it was one of the dumbest things he has ever done, and explained it as his attempt to bring conservative ideas to a realm that is occupied by extremists, envorinmentalism. He did that with Rev al, when he agreed with some of Sharpton's educations reforms. And Newt went into the ghettos with him - not many republicans do that.
What santorum did was sneaky, underhanded, hidden, and only happened to become public because some veterans found about it. He would have done it in the dark, kept it in the dark, had he had his choice. Big difference.
Charles, I take a lot of flack from Santorum supporters for posting my stuff, especially you on this - and I do it for one reason. I don't want any credit, I urge others to credit themselves if it will give it more heft. But I have changed the minds of 5 Santorum supporters with that flyer, because they had a crack of light in their minds, and after reading it went on to do their own research on Santorum. They started to vet him themselves. These were hardcore santorum supporters, I have been working on for months and months. And they were aghast at what they read in my little flyer, which is why I footnoted it to death, so there could be no doubts.
or as though you thought you were somehow entitled to an answer to your question... You asked me a question about Newt, I took no offense, I answered it. There are so many santorum supporters who don't know a thing about the man, and I just ask them as straightforwardly as I can - this incident says something about Santorum, please tell me what you think it means. that's all. They are often so blind, and I try to put some facts in front of them. some people are openminded, and it works, Others are closeminded and can't handle the question. I think it is a valid one. I had one christian professor say it changed his mind, and he never thought anything would change his mind about Santorum, and he is sending it along to fellow readers and now supports Newt.

I believe their different styles would complement each other well on the same ticket. Santorum had more emotional appeal tonight while Newt had the facts, figures and logic.
