.........In 1995, Gingrich, then speaker of the House, wrote a memo for GOPAC, which trains Republican candidates, citing language as "a key mechanism of control used by a majority party." In his inimitable, insufferable fashion, he went on to say that his videotaped GOPAC courses had elicited a "plaintive plea: 'I wish I could speak like Newt.'
"That takes years of practice. But we believe that you could have a significant impact on your campaign and the way you communicate if we help a little. That is why we have created this list of words and phrases,"..
He went on to give those Republicans who wanted to "speak like Newt" a list of "contrasting words" that he urged them to use in their campaigns: "These are powerful words that can create a clear and easily understood contrast. Apply these to the opponent, their record, proposals and their party."
The list included several words and phrases that are by now routinely batted about in the course of public commentary about the opposing party, usually by Republicans against Democrats..: "betray," "bizarre," "cheat," "corrupt," "destroy," "endanger," "greed," "hypocrisy," "ideological," "incompetent," "liberal," "lie," "machine," "mandate," "pathetic," "radical," "sick," "taxes," "traitors," "unionized," "waste" and "welfare." There were many more listed.
I'm not going to dwell on the supreme, well, hypocrisy of the fact that Gingrich's lexicon includes the words "hypocrisy" and "ideological." I will simply credit him with a superb understanding of the strong emotional undercurrents that govern political choices -- not to mention the power of using words as weapons.
It took a few years for me to see that the Gingrich style would do lasting damage.....It's no great surprise, for example, that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., yelled "You lie!" at President Obama during a 2009 speech to a joint session of Congress......

While in congress, Newt
* Founded the Conservative Opportune Society which met weekly to discuss ideas many of which were adopted by Reagan during his second term supporting the groups conservative goals on economic growth, education, crime, and social issues.
* Co founded the Congressional Military Reform Caucus and the Congressional Aviation and Space Caucus
* Led charges against the Democrat Speaker of the House Jim Wright
* Became House Minority Whip in 1989
* In 1990, he came up with a paper titled Language, a Key Mechanism of Control, that encouraged Republicans to speak like Newt and contained lists of contrasting words words with negative connotations such as radical, sick, and traitors and optimistic positive governing words such as opportunity, courage, and principled, that Gingrich recommended for use in describing Democrats and Republicans, respectively Now we know why he is so good with words during the debates.
* Gingrich and several other Republicans, in an effort to offer an alternative to Democratic policies and to unite distant wings of the Republican Party came up with a Contract with America which laid out ten policies that Republicans promised to bring to a vote on the House floor during the first hundred days of the new Congress if they won the elections. The contract was signed by Gingrich and other Republican candidates for the House of Representatives. The contract ranged from issues such as welfare reform, term limits, tougher crime laws, and a balanced budget law, to more specialized legislation such as restrictions on American military participation in UN missions. In the November 1994 elections, Republicans gained 54 seats and took control of the House for the first time since 1954.
* Congress fulfilled Gingrichs Contract promise to bring all ten of the Contracts issues to a vote within the first 100 days of the session
* Legislation proposed by the 104th US Congress included term limits for Congressional Representatives, tax cuts, welfare reform, and a balanced budget amendment, as well as independent auditing of the finances of the House of Representatives and elimination of non-essential services such as the House barbershop and shoe-shine concessions.
* Newt led the Republican majority to an re-election in 1996, the first time Republicans had done so in 68 years, and the first time simultaneously with a Democratic president winning re-election.
* In 1996, Newt pushed for the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act which was intended to reconstruct the welfare system. The act gave state governments more autonomy over welfare delivery, while also reducing the federal governments responsibilities. It instituted the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, which placed time limits on welfare assistance and replaced the longstanding Aid to Families with Dependent Children program. Other changes to the welfare system included stricter conditions for food stamp eligibility, reductions in immigrant welfare assistance, and recipient work requirements. The said act was signed into law on Aug 22, 1996.
* Pushed Clinton for a Federal Balanced Budget- The plan included a total of $152 billion in Republican sponsored tax cuts over five years. Other major parts of the spending plan called for $115 billion to be saved through a restructuring of Medicare, $24 billion set aside to extend health insurance to children of the working poor, tax credits for college tuition, and a $2 billion welfare-to-work jobs initiative. Plan was to have a balanced budget by 2002 but was achieved in 1999, three years ahead of schedule.
* Through the Contract with America, Gingrich was credited with the largest Capital Gains Tax Cut in US History with the 1997 US Tax Relief Act

UNLIKE Rick and Mitt, Newt Gingrich didn't sit on his laurels complaining about the liberal political landscape of his state. Newt CHANGED the political landscape in GA (as he did in Washington), brought Democrats into the party, rallied people to get involved in politics -- all by pushing conservatism.

"ATLANTA It wasn't so long ago that the Republican Party in Georgia was just an afterthought, and Democrats were in firm control of all the levers of state government. Back then, Newt Gingrich and other die-hard GOP stalwarts ventured across the state with the far-fetched message that Republicans could reverse the tide.
Now with commanding majorities in the Statehouse and control of all statewide offices, Gingrich is hoping his vision for how the GOP could overcome decades of Democratic dominance in Georgia will pay dividends. He sorely needs a victory when his home state votes Tuesday, along with a big chunk of its 76 delegates, to prove his stumbling presidential bid has staying power.
Many Republican figures in Georgia still credit him with championing conservative policies, outlining a framework for what a GOP majority in the state could accomplish and broadcasting talking points to a generation of up-and-coming conservative leaders. He's also applauded for lobbying conservative Democrats, like then-Rep. Nathan Deal, to switch parties.
"Everyone else was trying to lose as slowly as possible, and to die with dignity at the Alamo. He was talking confidently that the Republican majority in Georgia, in the South and nationally was right around the corner," said Ralph Reed, a veteran Georgia GOP operative who founded the national Faith and Freedom Coalition. "On the one hand it was crazy, but on the other it was just the most exciting thing you've ever heard.".....................In Ga., Gingrich helped build conservative base
As in, didn't rest on his laurels or sit on his hands......
What a GREAT :47 video!
We have 4 very unique candidates, but only one has the acumen, competency, capability, and credentials to lead this Country back onto the track of Liberty. Any informed citizen would agree, despite any reticence, that candidate is Newt.
The Establishment is working overtime to deflate his run. The MSM keeps reporting the Newt camp is saying [leading up to each primary/caucus]....this is a do-or-die to justify my staying in. The idea is to peal votes away. Newt has repeatedly stated he is in this to win and he will be going all the way to Tampa in August.
Newt's reason: "There must be one conservative in the GOP Primary!"
If there’s anything we all agree on, it’s our general contempt for the Establishment. The honest FReeper would have to admit that Newt is the one candidate the Establishment is most fearful of.
They can't tolerate the idea of a Bully Pulpit Newt teaching Americans the need and reasons for smaller government.
Rush’s audience increases when the enemy is in power and he is the only voice in opposition . i.e. Billy Clinton and BO.
So Rush thrives in a non-conservative administration.
Any questions?

Why aren't you going to dwell on the hypocrisy, Cynthia? Is it because using words as weapons is what you do for a living? On what basis other than ideology do you criticize Newt for what you yourself practice, you hypocrite!
You’re over-thinking. Rush just thrives anyway, and besides, there’s WAY too many liberals, liberal programs, liberal commentators and news sources, liberal Hollywood dopes, liberal teachers and professors.....
Having a Conservative in the White House won’t hurt Rush, so conspiratorial thinking is unwarranted.
AND, for the record, since it has been SO distorted during this campaign, Newt Gingrich could have stayed as Speaker and it was the MODERATES, not the conservatives, who kicked him to the curb .....
The Speaker Steps Down (from the article) .
"There is no doubt in my mind he had the votes to win the Speakership, but I'm not sure he had the votes to govern," said Kenneth M. Duberstein, a former White House chief of staff ...
"What I believe desperately needs to take place is to heal the alienation that currently exists," said Representative Steve Largent of Oklahoma, a conservative football Hall of Famer who announced his own challenge today to Mr. Gingrich's second-in-command, Representative Dick Armey of Texas.
The heart of the Speaker's problems, many Republicans said, is that he had never made an adequate adjustment from being the minority to being the majority, from intense backbench opposition to governing.
The hard-edged partisan bite that worked for Mr. Gingrich in the minority came across as stridency in power, Republicans said. ''Whenever we try to go on the offensive, the White House tries to make Newt the issue and whenever that happens we lose,'' said Peter T. King, a Republican from Long Island.
...... AND the "piste de résistance" ...
When Mr. Gingrich allowed Representative John R. Kasich of Ohio, the budget committee chairman, to try to rally House Republicans around a conservative blueprint for more than $100 billion in new savings [in 1998!], the moderates refused to back it.
Keep up the good work - Me and mine touching the screen for Newt in Mississippi on Tuesday.
Only twice in the last fifty years have the political power elites been thwarted. Reagan in 1980 and Newt in 1994. Those elites don’t want us to have a choice that includes Newt.
