Someone representing themselves as a teacher of the boy said that he was suspended for being tardy according to the Miami Herald.

For a week? In the schools in my county, you have to be tardy more than a dozen times to get suspended for a day or two. But for a week? And what was he doing rather than going to class?

I don't know anything about this kid (and I find it hard to believe that this shooting is justified), but I also have been around the block enough times to know that there are seldom clear "good guys" and "bad guys" involved in shootings. Mostly "bad guys" and "worse guys." Not saying that's true here, but I wouldn't be surprised...
