TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum hoped to lock down a victory in Kansas' GOP caucuses with two rallies Friday but faced grumbling from tea party activists for skipping their big rally in the state's largest city.................
Some tea party members were frustrated that Santorum wouldn't attend their rally. They spent $25,000 to rent the Century II arena in downtown Topeka and expected 1,000 to 3,000 people to attend.
"It seems like it is counterproductive to show up for an event that is going to have 300 people in an airplane hangar instead (of) 3,000 people in a nice setting where you can actually contact and really maybe sway somebody," said Craig Gabel, the president of Kansas For Liberty, which organized the Wichita event.
Gabel said Santorum skipping the gathering was a sign of tension between tea party members and Kansas GOP officials. He suggested the GOP had discouraged Santorum from attending. Santorum state coordinator Greg Cromer said it was a scheduling issue, and that tea party leaders were informed early..........................

The more I see and hear of this guy, the oilier he becomes to me.
I don’t like any of the present GOP nominees—but of the bunch, I could more happily vote for Gingrich than the rest.
I sure hope this doesn’t turn out to be another “hold youor nose and vote” election for me.
There’s not a decent conservative in the whole bunch—and while Gingrich is right on a lot of things, he’s sure been known to go off the reservation from time to time, too.
Santorum is an establishment politician.
Tea Party is anti-establishment.

I don’t get what the criticism of Santorum is here.
Somebody threw an event and wanted Santorum to appear and he chose not to.
Big deal.
Who are these people that they are entitled to demand Santorum’s presence at their event?
Why is it a “mess up”?
Santorum went where he chose.
Who has a right to tell him where to go?
Twenty Four hours in a day is an inconvenience, as is travel time. God only is Omnipresent.
There is no profit in insulting either Santorum or Newt, because if we are to beat Romney, one of them must be the candidate, so how on earth will we be able to take back all the insults. Only democrats get away with that.
True. People are scraping the bottom of the barrel for trash.
Sure Ricky can go where he pleases.
However, the bottom line is to get people to vote for him, and his actions here are counter productive to his campaign. Making prime voters mad is not a way to run a campaign.

They are the revolution. They are the people that truly want to roll government back, and expand freedom. I frankly don’t blame Rick for not attending. He doesn’t share their goals.
Spot on! Even Newt’s off the reservation ventures may have been done with alterior motives. The Global Warming thing with Pelosi is one. Gingrich’s opposition to global warming legislation took place after the Nancy Pelosi commercial promoting it.

If you want to continue sniffing around in personalities and ignoring real records of these candidates, may I give some advice?
Just vote for the guy who led the Republican Revolution and brought the party to a historic majority, after 40 years in the desert, who has the record and scars to prove it and then shut up with the picking of the nits vigil in which you seem so carelessly engaged.

While he's done a couple Tea Party rallies in AZ, NV and OH, he's been described as having a history of antagonistic remarks regarding the movement.
I don't know the Kansas group but I'd like to know whether Santorum's trying to avoid something here.
