ALABAMA, Rasmussen poll:
1. Newt Gingrich 30%
2. Rick Santorum 29%
3. Mitt Romney 28%
4. Ron Paul 7%
These numbers are much more salubrious for Gingrich than Alabama State University's recent poll.
In that survey, Santorum was 23%, Romney was 19%, and Gingrich was 14%.
One explanation? Even though the ASU poll was released Wednesday, it was conducted before Super Tuesday, which shook things up a bit.
But... that makes things even more curious, since you'd expect Newt to have fallen after his bad Super Tuesday performance and not risen as Rasmussen suggests.
MISSISSIPPI, American Research Group poll:
1. Newt Gingrich 35%
2. Mitt Romney 31%
3. Rick Santorum 20%
4. Ron Paul 7%
That's a pretty big gap between Newt and Santorum, which is driven by Santorum's horrible support with the tea party in the state.
49% of tea party supporters say they'll vote for Gingrich; only 17% say the same about Santorum. Even Romney beats Santorum with tea partiers.

Does California have an open primary and allow dems to switch affiliation to skew the results?
There are SOME very conservative people in California(Heck I’m one). However, there are not enough.(I’m voting for Newt.)
Does California have an open primary and allow dems to switch affiliation to skew the results?
Closed.........
~Newt Gingrich
Nice.
Newt is our only chance to turn it all around.
Romney and Santorum would just be milder Obamas.
Oregon is one sick place. They’re not just liberals; they’re terrorists.
Additionally, you must be a registered republican to vote for a republican candidate in the California presidential primary.

No, M’am. - California has an open primary this year.
RCP says it’s closed:

California legislature says its open.
Not in the presidential primary.
I hope Newt dominates the 3/19 Oregon debate

That’s a Monday night. What network will be carrying it?
How are presidential primary elections conducted in California?
Qualified political parties in California may hold presidential primaries in one of two ways:
Closed presidential primary - only voters indicating a preference for a party may vote for that party's presidential nominee.
Modified-closed presidential primary - the party also allows voters who did not state a party preference to vote for that party's presidential nominee.
If a qualified political party chooses to hold a modified-closed presidential primary, the party must notify the California Secretary of State no later than the 135th day before Election Day.
The Democratic and American Independent parties notified the Secretary of State that they will allow voters who did not state a political party preference to vote the presidential ballot of their parties in the upcoming June 5, 2012, Presidential Primary Election. Their notifications can be found in CC/ROV Memorandum #12039.
The republican primary remains closed.
AND:(Just to make things really confusing)
What is a voter-nominated office?
The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, which took effect January 1, 2011, created "voter-nominated" offices. The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committees, or local offices.
Most of the offices that were previously known as "partisan" are now known as "voter-nominated" offices. Voter-nominated offices are state constitutional offices, state legislative offices, and U.S. congressional offices. The only "partisan offices" now are the offices of U.S. President and county central committee.
I have no idea.
Thanks GVnana.
In what dream world would the blue guy drop out to help the red guy with the scoreboard looking like this?
Count committed delegats, not states. Newt has more than the blue boy, but for me, it really doesn’t matter.
