I think that I detect a very subtle “decoupling” of certain media groups, political operatives, and so forth from the Obama “train”. I think at the very least there is an effort to explore options, cover their bets, etc.
This is where I think Romney comes in. The people with real money (ie. billionaires, media moguls, etc.) would not be that averse to a “President Romney.” Romney is cranking up the “inevitability” theme again, redoubling his efforts.
It may be too early to declare Obama “road-kill” but I think it’s going to be increasingly clear.
Consider the recent Gallup Poll showing that 50% consider Obama’s presidency “a failure”? Consider that Obama LOST something like 18 counties in the Oklahoma Democrat Primary to a nobody? Individually these things might be aberrations, but the data points are adding up to a defeat of Carter-esque proportions.
But of course. Romney's the "severely acceptable" kind of Republican - one who won't rock the boat.
That “nobody”, Randall terry, is a man who has fought LONG AND HARD—to get abortion abolished in this country. He has been sued, jailed and such, and he knows he can’t win on the demo ballot.
But—he is hopeful—and so should all of us be also—that maybe...just maybe—he could peel off enough votes from Obama—if he gets on the general ballot in November—that he could be the “3rd party on the DEMOCRAT side—and cost O maybe 10% or so of the demo vote...such would nearly GUARNTEE Obama’s defeat!!
