The problem is overtime it seems. Perhaps they could raise the basic pay and take away the overtime. I mean most people who are salaried work way more hours than 40. Plus maybe if they are on watch but sleeping give a portion of the wage, but if they are called to fight a fire than they can get the full amount. There are ways to do things that won’t put them in the poor house but not have tax payers paying 175K either.

Well that's pretty damn odd.

Most people in the private sector we know, have had their hours slashed, cut, benefits reduced or completely eliminated, lost pensions, lost businesses, lost homes, with millions losing basic things like group Health insurance and on and on.

No, no no...Along with *everyone* in government, outside the military, they need their pay slashed, benefits reduced, and make them pay for their own retirements for the most part, just like millions in the private sector have been subjected to.

Then completely eliminate unionization of government employees.

Enough!
