That is scary. Does it make me nervous that we are going to pick the wrong candidate. Heck yeah. I swear if Newt is the guy to win the general, I would be behind him immediately. He just has to win AL AND MS, but he also needs to win some states outside the state. This is why I know he loves Ronald Reagan because he is following Reagan’s Southern Strategy of 1976, but Reagan did not get enough delegates because he did not get enough outside the South. Newt is doing the same thing which is fine, but going outside the South is crucial and Kansas would have been an outstanding opportunity, but alas he has decided not to compete there either. Anyway good luck Newt in AL and MS.
I’ll tell you what is scary. It is scary that you and I are agreeing so much. The Kansas strategy on his part is huge mistake. I am somewhat on the inside, and everything I have predicted since November has come true.
Unfortunately, almost none of my advice given with those predictions was taken.
The huge difference between now and Reagan’s day, is now the tiny states count “just as much” because they change people’s minds for the upcoming states. Santorum has proven that strategy. He was considered the serious challenger to Romney at a point when he had less than half of Newt’s raw votes because while RS didn’t have many total votes, he had a “bunch of states.”
People watch Fox News and see “number of states” and they are largely ignorant to populations and certainly ignorant to what a caucus is versus a primary versus a non binding primary.
But if you and I are agreeing, there’s hope.....
