I totally agree with to perspective of rlmorel’s comment. I think too often conservatives expect liberals to play by the same rules and are shocked when they don’t. Reflect on how many times do we see the analogy of “Lucy moving the football on Charlie Brown” placed in comments on FR.

We need to develop political, media, economic, and communication strategies to combat the true nature of the liberals, not what we think they should be.

The main point I was trying to make is that we need to be aware that civility in discourse is a one-way ratchet for leftists.

We don’t have to engage in it, but neither do we have to shy away from it. My feeling is that it is an individual choice, and that we need to keep our head squarely on our shoulders when we engage in discourse.

I know that I get angry when I see this perceived double standard, and to us, it is indeed a double standard. But to them, we must remember that it is not, and they are going to view our indignation and outrage at the recognition of it as such very dismissively.

I just finished Andrew Breitbart’s last book, and in it he seemed to be encouraging us to embrace the tactics of Saul Alinsky. Having taken the time (and painful time it was) to read “Rules for Radicals”, I can’t bring myself to embrace the tactics, even in defense of what I know is good and right.

I fully understand that makes me weak in this respect, but I feel that is something that everybody has to come to in their own way, and I simply haven’t found a way to do that yet.
