Atlanta (CNN) - With the recognition that Super Tuesday did not deliver a knock-out punch for Mitt Romney and that the Republican primary contest is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, the super PAC supporting Romney's bid has bought almost $1.4 million worth of ads in states that don't vote until the end of March.
The group told CNN it has purchased $937,000 worth of air time in Illinois, which votes on March 20 and $451,000 for commercials in Louisiana, which holds its primary on March 24.
With much of the political world's attention now focused on Alabama and Mississippi, which vote next week, the super PACs supporting Romney and Newt Gingrich are engaged in a multi-million dollar ad war in those two states.
Taking advantage of its major cash advantage, Restore Our Future has bought more than $2 million in Alabama and Mississippi in broadcast and cable time through the primaries,...is running a combination of ads criticizing both Santorum and Gingrich
-snip-
Romney's campaign just weighed in with a $165,000 buy for broadcast ads in Alabama. Gingrich's campaign just bought $20,000 of cable time in Alabama and Mississippi.
The super PAC pushing Romney also is aiming its fire at Santorum in several mailers sent to Alabama voters.
In one obtained by CNN, the pro-Romney Restore Our Future attacks Rick Santorum for "Typical behavior from a real Washington insider."
The mailer reads: "Like Most D.C. insiders Rick Santorum has a problem. He puts his interests ahead of ours!" The flier specifically criticizes Santorum for voting for a bill allowing felons to vote.
-snip-
The other side of the pamphlet shows a sign saying "Vote here" with the word "felons" written above it and next to it. It states: "Rick Santorum voted with Hillary Clinton to allow felons

I see Newt, as a person trying to educate people on why our country is about to be lost..
He is a great mind, but he is not smug! He is a professor and historian. He is also the only person on the stage to teach the military strategies..to THE MILITARY!.. So Yes, he is the most qualified individual on the stage.
Smug, pompous jerk are more closely aligned to Ricky and Mitt.. not NEWT! You seem to be misreading your signals
Have a nice day
Newt has more intelligence and leadership skills.
We are not needing a Father/preacher in chief. The dems are laughing at us. Suicide mission still in progess.

Wrong. I'm not peddling no ones lies.
You need to read the article, not just mouth off about it. I wrote it. Three of the links are to congressional documents of santorum’s amendment. Two are concerning the veterans and their attorney who came against Kennedy and Santorum’s plans - every fact was from public record transcripts, which don’t lie. congressional records, which don’t lie. The other was from a blog about the heroes at the Veteran’s home, more about their battles as forgotten soldiers, just to give an idea of the soldiers from that era. The other catholic news releases about the sale.
You are typical. This is how santorum supporters react to any criticism of their candidates... biased reporting - lies - God haters. I purposely footnoted this to death so there could be no denying the veracity of the facts in article. You can’t deal with it. That is your problem not mine.
You still haven’t answered my question. What do santorum’s machinations say about him as a principled conservative, and what do they say about you for supporting him as the principled conservative. It’s called reality. Reality. This country elected barack obama in 2008 because dems behaving like you couldn’t deal with REALITY.
I am from a military family. I see a corrupt politician who did a terrible thing to American veterans. That’s what I see. REALITY. DEAL WITH IT.
What’s sad about you, is some very strong Santorum supporters were openminded enough to consider the facts, and they are starting to understand that Santorum is what he seems to be at all.
Part of "that strategy" is getting the heard. You win and have a great message like Newt, you can get the heard back. Yes, conservatives have a heard. About 15% to 20% make up the heard. Now, Santo benefits from 'the heard' after they ran from Cain, Bachmann, Perry, and Newt. Rick is the last guy standing and now they are giving him the look.
Rick was fortunate that he was mired down there with RuPaul on the bottom for months. If Rick was the top candidate in the lead say in October or November of last year, he would have been taken down like the rest of them by the press and from an avalanche of negative ads by Mittens.
Meanwhile, Obama and his band of communist miscreants are laughing their heads off.
With that said, I hope of one these men survive the next few weeks so that I can vote for one of them against Romney in the primary.
Romney/Obama...Saul Alinsky would be proud.
Oops,
heard = herd
Yes. I just don’t understand the few people who think romney is better Rick. I’m wondering if some people don’t like him because he is a christian.
Rick Santorum’s comments about Sarah Palin go back to the 2008 election, and have occurred as recently the 2011 CPAC.
His comments have been catty and not in the least what one would expect from a gentleman.
But then she did call him a “knuckle-dragging Neanderthal”; yes she did! Quite the love/hate scenario, I’d say.
Suggestion: google “Santorum and Palin”
He does have a poltical record. I urge everyone to research candidates so when the vetting of your preferred candidate gets aired and it stinks, you’re not overly suprised.
Christians aren’t better than other people. We forgive others who’ve sinned against us, and ask forgiveness of those we’ve harmed or sinned against. There will always be those people who do not understand this aspect of our religion but there is nothing much you can do except treat them with kindness.
“I strongly suggest that people backing Santorum here on Free Republic deeply research Rick Santorum. When he first ran for Congress he claimed to be pro-abortion and posed as the anti-Reagan. People do change, I know that. But character rarely does, if ever.”
Well, if your theory is correct, Gingrich is still a womanizing..non-catholic? Character never changes? Newt would disagree with you.
Santorum was pro-abortion? LOL I have read it all now!!
Also, your comments about Christians in your latter post is pretty interesting too. You have a very narrow view of Christianity.
If this is some lame attempt to promote Newt, give it up and let his campaign folks handle it. You aren’t up for the job.
Excellent summary Satin Doll; fully concur!!!
Newt Gingrich had an epiphany. He had to, or he would have self-destructed.
As a small child he witnessed his father beating and abusing Newt’s mother. She divorced him, remarried, and Newt was adopted by his step dad. Later he was sexually molested by a high school teacher. Yeah, the first wife he married, because she became pregnant and he felt obligated. She asked for the divorce, not him.
This man was carrying a troubled emotional burden while serving in Congress but he sought counseling, joined AA and eventually turned his life around after a religious conversion.
What I’ve found shocking is the enormous number of so-called Christians here at Free Republic who are nothing of the sort.
I’m not disgusted with Newt Gingrich, who I believe has honestly changed his life. I’m disgusted with the bigots who claim they are Christian but do not put it into daily practice.
...After only four years with his Party still in power, his own members forced him out...
Oh yeah, and many of those Republicans are still in Congress. They are part of the ongoing problem of business as usual in Washignton, D.C. Under a Republican president, they added over $3 trillion to the federal deficit, shunned conservative policy in favor of Beltway influence-peddling - one of whom was Sen.Santorum - and so damaged the GOP brand that we lost the majority Gingrich had worked years to forge.
Do you really think I give a damn that Newts fabulous colleagues think his reemergence would be a disaster for Republicans? No. The elections of 2010 were NOT a merit promotion; the Republicans were the only alternative in town!
Newt Gingrich is pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment and loves America and understands its citizens. As a historian, he thoroughly knows the U.S. Constitution and our nation’s history.
He allied himself with Ronald Reagan to build the Reagan Coalition, the Religious Right, and the Republican majority (together the Reagan Revolution) which directly led the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, less government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, long-standing Reagan economy.
Washington is broken, it doesn’t work the way it is supposed to and Newt said, if elected, he will work to change the way Washington does business. You better believe the elitists who suck money off of government contracts are terrified he will be elected.
The 1998 budget was scheduled for a $1 Billion cut and congress saw the gravy train leaving the station. No more getting rich at the publics expense.
So it became get rid of Newt Gingrich even to the extent of manufacturing lies about him. Those phony ethics charges that were ALL dropped, but the media continues to smear him year after year after year.
And now, older and wiser, he is back. And the corrupt in Washington, D.C., are AGAIN trying to save the status quo. The question is, what are YOU going to do?
We have to change Washington in order to get our nation back on the right track.
I have nothing but the greatest admiration for Newt Gingrich. If he survives the primaries in the next few weeks, I will vote for him in my state’s primary.
If he does drop out, I will vote for Santorum if he is still in the race.
All this “vetting” is destroying the only chances we have to run a TRUE conservative against Obama. It is great to have a passion for your candidate, but, it has gotten out of control and we are eating our own.
Romney’s attack ads are vicious and for the most part bogus. He is a liar, a fraud and trojan horse. So when you get in the dirt and attack other conservatives remember what Romney has done. Romney has confirmed what I have known about him all along. He is no conservative.
I would vote for Gingrich in a heart beat....and I feel the same way about Santorum.
I would vote for my neighbor’s dog before I would Romney.
Just be careful how you state your case for your candidate. You could do more harm to them than good.

This is one of those “political interest” articles politician’s have to endure.
In this, a cousin states that was pro-choice at one time, then changed after his marriage.
Thank you.
“In this, a cousin states that was pro-choice at one time, then changed after his marriage.”
Remember your original comment about character. And my response. I think Newt has grown in his spiritual beliefs and that Santorum has grown in his as well.
Time and maturity changes us all. And when God enters our lives through Jesus Christ we are changed forever. I believe both men are good Christians.
Enough said...
You’re most welcome. Thank you for your well considered post and for expressing your viewpoint in a clear and concise manner.
I thought you were talking about the lying personal attacks against Gingrich.
I think we should all expect the candidates to run ads comparing records and contrasting positions. Yes, that is also “negative” when those positions are not favorable to a candidate, but that’s not what most of us complain about when we grouse about “negative ads”.
For example, if someone ran an ad saying that Romneycare was the basis for Obamacare, that would be a negative ad, but we wouldn’t object to it being run. If someone ran an ad pointing out that Gingrich made a commercial with Nancy Pelosi, that would also be negative, but wouldn’t be a false personal attack.
Newt HAS been running ads and making comments contrasting his positions with Rick Santorum, and Rick has been doing the same. We would expect no less.
I thought the objection about “negative ads in Florida” was about how Santorum wasn’t trying to win Florida, and so shouldn’t have been attacking Gingrich there. That’s why I made the point that Santorum didn’t run ads or robocalls in Florida.
