I think freeper threads where the two sides yell that the other side’s candidate has to quit are kind of funny.
But you are right about one thing, it is hard to see how Newt goes from a string of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-place finishes to winning the nomination and being able to destroy Obama in the fall.
Even here, he maintains his strong showing in threads in part because of the site supports Newt; as nasty as the two sides are sometimes, when Santorum supporters go over the edge, they don’t last long.
Hopefully, that won’t give people the wrong impression that Santorum support is dropping.
This was Super Tuesday. This was when Santorum was supposed to collapse, burn out, “drop like a rock” if I remember the term. And Gringrich was ascending, rising, a shining shooting star that would sweep the day and prove his worth.
Now I guess there will a whole new set of promises; Gingrich will win the NEXT set of states. Maybe he will. Maybe we should hope he will. I would have loved to see him sweep super tuesday, if for no other reason than we’d stop these rediculous threads.
Instead, we might get a Santorum sweep, or more likely the same outcome as two weeks ago, good but not quite good enough if Santorum can’t quite take Ohio.
One thing is clear. If Santorum was gone, Romney would likely have sealed the nomination today. It would have been a long slog still, but having swept February and taken half the states today, the “inevitability” argument would have taken hold.
Santorum is the one candidate who stood in the breach after Florida, fought in those states that Newt dismissed as places nobody cared about, and stopped the Romney bandwagon in it’s tracks. For that alone, he deserves a lot better than the smears he gets hit with regularly here.
Well said. Finally, some sanity.
