No incumbency backlash accounts for such a huge spread. That PA continues to elect Republicans tells us something was wrong specific to Santorum rather than his spin effort to "blame Bush" for the loss.

The national issue still appears to be the economy. The mid east might heat up but Santorum is the biggest war drum candidate and that will not sell well to a fatigued general electorate. Pro life will not be the deciding issue in general.

NO !! Pa hasn’t “continued” to elect Republicans...at that time, when Santorum lost, we had Ed Rendell as Governor; and a Dem House and Senate in Harrisburg. Bob Casey beat Santorum; then the tide turned...and Toomey won. PA is waaaay more red now than back then.
