The only disadvantage of having a local hard drive backup is if your house/business burns down both your ‘puter and your backup HD are lost.

If you’re concerned about fire or water damage, fireproof and waterproof external hard drives for home use are on the market. They are pricey but Costco online has them.

True, BUT Odds?

House burning down vs hard drive crashing

1,000,000 to 1

How many here on FR have ever had a hard drive crash? EVERYONE! Who has had their house burn down? Not too many.

I have no statistics to back up these claims. Only common sense.
