Police in New Mexico say a robbery suspect may have left a piece of his finger behind at the crime scene.
Police arrived at the Up in Smoke Smoke Shop in Albuquerque after a report of shots fired Saturday night.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect fled the scene after emptying the register, but they believe he left behind his severed finger tip inside a glass display case.
Wearing a black hoodie and sunglasses, the armed suspect emptied the register as well as demanded some of the store's glass pipes, according to the filed police report.
Finding an opportunity to fight back, a struggle ensued between the store clerk and the suspect, ultimately breaking a glass display case which sliced at least one of the two men.
Producing a shot gun, the clerk told the suspect to drop his weapon of a hand gun which the man did not.
Firing once, the clerk believed he shot the suspect but police responding to the scene were not able to find any sign of the suspect having been wounded by the shot.
Police responding found the finger inside the display case with the clerk, while having cut himself, not missing any.
They don't believe the finger was shot off but speculate it had been sliced by the glass, against initial reports.
According to a police spokesperson speaking to the Mail Online, 'there was not enough of the severed finger to pick up a latent print, however, I have submitted a request for service on the blood found on that severed finger.
'All hospitals were contacted about gun shot wounds and injuries to the hand on Saturday and Sunday and all hospitals stated they had no patients with such injuries,' she said.
No arrests have been made.

I vital bit of information is what kind of shotgun shell was used. He could have several shot in him without bleeding enough at the scene for them to tell he had been hit.
Well, hopefully he will get a Jim dandy of an infection and try to tough it out.
