Although Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke testified to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee last month that contraception can cost a law student $3,000 over three years and that some of her fellow students could not afford it, a Target store only 3 miles from the law school currently sells a month's supply of birth control pills for only $9 to people who do not have insurance plans covering contraceptives.
That would make the total cost for birth control pills for a student who decided to use them for all three years of law school just $324.
Fluke was the sole witness who appeared on Feb. 23 before an all-Democratic panel chaired by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).“Without insurance coverage, contraception can cost a woman over $3,000 during law school," Fluke said. "For a lot of students who, like me, are on public interest scholarships, that’s practically an entire summer’s salary. Forty percent of female students at Georgetown Law report struggling financially as a result of this policy.

“One student told us of how embarrassed and powerless she felt when she was standing at the pharmacy counter, learning for the first time that contraception wasn’t covered, and had to walk away because she couldn’t afford it," said Fluke. 20% of women are on BC for medical issues and some BC is very expensive. I think BC should be covered for those issues.
I remember reading somewhere that if you’re BC was for medical reasons, it was covered under Georgetown Law’s student policy.
You think she is now ever going to attend a REAL hearing and allow Conservative members of Congress to point this out to her? I think not.
This is the PRCISE point where we all get screwed. Everyone - lawmakers and citizens alike - come up with these bright ideas (by the thousands) on what "should" be done with everyone else's money.
How about this:
Don't involve me an others in your grand plans. I really don't give a flying **** how you think my families money should be spent.
Are you people God? You simply deem in your little minds what "should" be done, then use the law to pillage the resources of others in order to do it.
If you think people "should" have one thing or another, then you and other people like you can chip in and get it for them. Quit molesting others with your bright ideas.
What about drugs and treatments for people who have eaten or smoked themselves into bad health? Are you against those as well? BC that is needed for medical issues should be covered(with a reasonable copay). Nope not God, but that is what health insurance is for.
I'm not sure where you get those statistics. I used to do medical research for a living and I can't recall seeing that number in our data. Can you cite a source?
Also, what do you mean when you say birth control "should be covered"? Do you mean that taxpayers should "cover" birth control by providing it free for patients who can demonstrate a medical need, or do you mean that patients should have the right to buy a private health-insurance policy that will subsidized the cost of hormone medications?
The stats were posted on a link on FR last week.Showed all the various conditions BC was prescribed(bad acne, out of control periods etc). I think private insurance should cover (with a copay)BC for medical issues.
But I don't want to be forced to pay for her 'idea' of health care or her concept of necessary recreation.
I don't care how much she pays for birth control... as long as that 'payment' isn't forced on me.
For my 'health', I'd like a jacuzzi - it would help my health. I just don't feel it's Sandra Fluke's responsibility to pay for it...
I watched the house debate on Obama-care and the Pelosi House-women lined up to each give a two minute speech saying that they supported Obama-care (they called it something else) because finally Health insurance companies would no longer be able discriminate against women by making them pay for their own insurance benefits, now you would have to help them pay for them.
