Cardinal Dolan confirmed my oldest when he was archbishop of milw. He is right to stand up this way, but in my
own parish and diocese, too many Catholics are radical leftists. they have bought into social justice ( via big govt) and radical feminism hook, line, and sinker. This will fall on many deaf ears. i pray it will spur some who have been silent on the sidelines into action.
I met Dolan a few years ago when he traveled up to Albany to meet with then Governor Paterson. The hall leading into the governor's chambers was packed with media. After the meeting, the other bishops in his entourage, left the building through a back door. Dolan, on the other hand, walked right over to the reporters and answered all of their questions. He then proceeded past them where chamber staff stood hoping to catch a glimpse. I boldly called out his name and he walked right over, shook my hand and listened to what I had to say. Strong hands and a big smile!
When I made my confirmation (pre VCII), the bishop came. I was only 11 and we were a very large group of kids under the scrutinizing gaze of the good sisters. With all the distractions, it was difficult to focus but when the bishop addressed us, he said something that grabbed my attention and has remained with me ever since. He addressed us as "Soldiers of Christ". That is what is conferred on us with this sacrament. Now is the time to rise up to the challenge. Too many catholics are ignorant of their faith. Why not speak with the pastor and see how you can help rally the troops. The first weapon in your quiver is PRAYER! Begin today and make it a daily habit. Start with the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host - by the Divine Power of God - cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. |
